The perinatal pathology service (including autopsy) supports four large maternity units in east London which collectively deliver around 20,000 babies each year. Approximately 2000 placentas are referred annually for histopathology and in the last two years a regular cross-site Placenta MDT has been established to discuss complex cases with pathology that has potential for recurrence in future pregnancies.
