Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our busy dynamic team within Cancer Care. An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a team of Doctors Administrative Assistants. This role encompasses speciality clinical areas for Medical Oncology, Clinical Oncology and Haematology and is a full-time permanent position.

This role is pivotal in working with the multi-disciplinary teams within Cancer Care, working closely with doctors and ANPs on a daily basis. Post holders are required to work Monday to Friday between the hours of 8am and 4pm.

Based within a busy ward environment, you will be working alongside clinical staff assisting them with their admin duties, including scribing doctors' patient reviews and discharge letters which are completed when patients are deemed medically fit for discharge. This is a pivotal role embedded within the ward areas and allows our clinicians to spend more time with their patients.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

WHAT YOU'LL DO

This role is pivotal in working with the multi-disciplinary teams within the Cancer Care wards, helping to co-ordinate inpatient pathways and optimise inpatient bed flow. This includes inputting Ìýdata to DWL and initiate an e-Discharge summary with findings and support inpatient team as knowledge grows.

WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for a competent, self-motivated and professional individual. As a flexible team player you will have excellent communication skills and a strong ability to work accurately to tight deadlines.Ìý

You will need to have excellent attention to detail, ideally medical terminology knowledge to read and comprehend medical notes and results, as well as experience in a busy demanding medical environment. You will need to be able to communicate with staff at all levels to ensure information and data quality meets their needs.

You will need strong written communication to write discharge summaries, populate doctor's worklists, and prep patient notes for doctor's ward rounds.Ìý

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • NVQ 3 In Business Administration or equivalent relevant experience
  • RSA 2 word processing / typing or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology
  • Experience in a busy and demanding medical environment
  • Experience of working under high pressure and to deadlines
  • Admin experience within a customer focused environment
Desirable criteria
  • e-Camis Trained
  • Knowledge of Doctors Work List, Edocs, PACs, eQuest
  • Experience working in the NHS with associated IT systems
