North West London Pathology (NWLP) is an NHS pathology partnership joint venture between Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, Chelsea & Westminster NHS Foundation Trust and The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. NWLP is modelled as a shared services organisation jointly owned by the three Trusts. The organisation is hosted by Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and as the legal entity for NWLP our staff are employed by Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
NWLP is based on a ‘hub and spoke’ structure; the majority of routine, specialist and non-urgent activity is centralised at our hub site at Charing Cross Hospital. Urgent tests required for immediate patient management and treatment are performed in 24/7 Essential Service Laboratories based on-site within the seven hospital sites in the group.
The partnership has created an innovative and sustainable service that delivers outstanding quality to users and patients alike. This innovative approach allows the service to better manage demand, standardise operations, improve value for money and make use of state-of-the-art technology.

Join the West Middlesex University Hospital Blood Sciences team and elevate your career to new heights! We are on the lookout for a passionate, HCPC-registered Haematology & Blood Transfusion Biomedical Scientist to become an integral part of our dynamic team.Ìý
This Band 6 position is your gateway to working with cutting-edge technology including Abbott Alinity HQ Haematology analysers, Stago StarMax2 Haemostasis analysers, Alifax ESR Technology, and Immucor Blood Grouping analysers.
Expect to immerse yourself in diverse laboratory sections, with comprehensive training provided to ensure your success. Our operation is 24/7, ensuring the continuity and quality of patient care, and you will play a vital role in this essential service, potentially participating in our night worker rota.
Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd
- To work with biomedical scientists and clinical scientists in the provision of a comprehensive and effective Pathology centralised referral unit service for North West London Pathology, as directed by the Head of the Department.
- To participate in the efficient handling, processing and analysis of samples in the laboratory, under supervision.
- To maintain effective records of all activities and procedures, and to contribute towards the maintenance of the laboratory's quality system.
- To check, keep clean and maintain laboratory equipment.
- To carry out supervised laboratory procedures in all sections of the laboratory, as directed by the Head of the Unit and senior scientific staff.
- To undergo appropriate teaching and training as directed and as necessary in order to maintain HPC registration and Ìýto maintain suitable records of all training activities undertaken

NWLP Induction
The NWLP induction will run on the first Monday of each month (provided it does not fall on a bank holiday) and includes laboratory training (for relevant laboratory roles). All new staff must attend the NWLP induction during their first week with NWLP.

- Degree or equivalent in a biological science which is acceptable by Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS)/ Health Professions Council (HPC) for Registration.
- HCPC Registration
- Hold the IBMS Specialist Diploma in relevant discipline OR equivalent experience (defined as 24 months proven experience post registration in the relevant discipline, supported by evidence based competency records)
