An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 15hr per week role for a Registered Nurse with a good level of experience in Breast cancer. The post holder will become an integral part of the Cancer services team to provide cover across both surgery and oncology services.

This post holder will be expected to support and advise patients and their families on the breast cancer pathway. They will play a key role within the breast multidisciplinary team, working alongside Clinicians supporting patients in outpatients and inpatient settings with both clinical and holistic care. They will be a key educational resource and participate in the education of the multi-disciplinary team in aspects of breast cancer trust wide and work part of a wider breast nursing team ensuring cross cover trust wide.

This rapidly expanding modern and busy unit offers many training opportunities for their staff, the opening of our cancer centre in February 2020 and development of a radiotherapy unit due to open autumn 2024. This developing service is supported by a forward thinking & supportive Management Team, Nurse Practitioners, Palliative Care Team & Macmillan Information and Support Centre.

Main duties of the job

It is expected that the individual will have a sound knowledge of breast care nursing with a high level of clinical credibility. The main part of the role will be to support patients and their families that have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

The leadership role will encompass:

• Ìý ÌýClinical assessment, treatment, care and support of patients at all stages of their pathway
• Ìý ÌýInformation and support to patients, families and carersÌý

Clinical support of senior nursing and medical staff in decisions regarding care and treatment plans.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

PROFESSIONAL ROLE

Analyses and interprets national and local recommendations for breast cancer and develops plans with others to implement and achieve compliance.

Contributes to the hospital weekly breast MDT meeting and the cancer network measures it must achieve.ÌýÌý

OPERATIONAL

Contributes to the design, planning and development of the breast cancer service and patient pathways.Ìý

Participates in annual Macmillan service reviews of cancer nursing in MK Hospital.

EDUCATION

Works as a role model and supports high standards of care by working clinically alongside nursing and medical staff.

Identifies the educational needs of patients, their careers and their families in relation to breast cancer and works with the Macmillan Information and Support Nurse to address these at an individual and a community level.

  • Accredited qualification in breast cancer
