Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a ST3+ doctor to join the medical education team in University Hospital Southampton as teaching fellow. The successful candidate will contribute primarily to providing teaching to Foundation doctors, but opportunities will also be available to participate in other teaching programmes including for undergraduates. Training and supervision for the role will be provided by the medical education team at UHS.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:
The successful candidate will work closely with the Foundation programme directors and coordinators to develop and deliver the teaching programme for Foundation doctors in UHS. The teaching fellow will contribute to the programme by providing teaching sessions, including simulation sessions. Training in SIM teaching will be provided if required.

Qualifications and training
Essential criteria
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- GMC registration with a licence to practise
- Satisfactory completion of Foundation programme and core training (or equivalent experience)
- Experience of working in the NHS
Previous or relevant experience
Essential criteria
- Appropriate knowledge base, and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
- Keeps professional knowledge and skills up to date
- Maintains clinical and non- clinical skills
Desirable criteria
- Demonstrates a critical and enquiring approach to knowledge acquisition
- Ability to practice evidence-based medicine
Aptitudes and skills
Essential criteria
- Demonstrate the ability to be calm, compassionate, and able to respond efficiently to various circumstances, which may change rapidly
- Understands the responsibilities of being an employee in the NHS
- Displays honesty, integrity, aware of ethical dilemmas, respects confidentiality
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of leadership qualities (not necessarily in medicine)
- Demonstrated experience working in a team and values the input of other professionals.

- Contributes to teaching and learning of others in the clinical setting
- Keen interest to develop knowledge and experience in Medical Education
- Understands the basic principles of audit, research, and quality improvement
Desirable criteria
- Has received positive feedback on teaching skills
- Organisation of teaching locally, regionally, or nationally
- Able to deliver simulation teaching
- Evidence of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
- Publications, abstracts, peer reviewed articles, book chapters
- Participation in audit/research or quality improvement
