Cellular Therapy Nurse Co-ordinator

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced nurse to join the cellular therapy coordination team. Any potential applicants should have relevant knowledge and skills. The Haematology Oncology service at the Christie offers state of the art treatments delivered by leading clinicians to patients with blood cancers and across the Manchester Region and beyond. The post holder will be managed by the Senior Cell Therapy Co-ordinator and supported by the Cellular Therapy & Transplant Programme Director. The post holder will be responsible for co-ordinating the treatment pathways for patients requiring CAR-T and Haematopoietic stem cell transplants within the Cellular Therapy Program at the Christie Hospital, ensuring the provision of effective and specialized care to this patient group whilst working in close conjunction with the cellular therapy consultant team, lead transplant/Cellular Therapy Coordinator and apheresis co-ordinators.

Work collaboratively with all members of the multidisciplinary team to co-ordinate and plan treatment pathways for patients requiring these treatments within the trust and externally.

Management of a designated patient work load ensuring all pre admission and pre collection requirements have been correctly undertaken, documented and reviewed by the clinical team with support from lead coordinator

Liaise with Medical team in the development, implementation, and evaluation of individual pro-grammes of care and protocols. ÌýReviewing Ìýand assisting with standard operating procedures and actively involve with the regulatory accreditation such was JACIE and HTA

The post holder will be required to work autonomously and exercise a high level of clinical expertise, exceptional role model, excellent interpersonal skills and knowledge in stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy.

1.Ìý CLINICAL PRACTICE

Ìý

  • To coordinate the pre admission treatment pathway for patients/donors requiring CART/ATMP treatments and stem cell transplantation working in close conjunction with the lead Co-ordinator
  • Ensure patients have access to timely written and verbal information, providing advice and support allowing informed consent and decision making to occur.
  • Provide holistic nursing care and emotional support to patients and families
  • Work collaboratively with all members of the multidisciplinary team to Co-ordinate and plan treatment pathways for patients requiring these treatments within the trust and externally.
  • Management of a designated patient work load ensuring all pre admission and pre collection requirements have been correctly undertaken, documented and reviewed by the clinical team with support from lead coordinator
  • Liaise with Medical team in the development, implementation and evaluation of individual programmes of care and protocols.Ìý
  • To collect, collate, evaluate and report information, maintaining accurate patient records on the management of patients
  • ÌýWork collaboratively with the quality and the data manager to maintain an accurate record system, collect relevant statistical information for service evaluation and change. Review and assist in the development of operating policies related to cellular therapies, actively participating in regulatory accreditation processes (JACIE /HTA), the clinical audit of services and the development of annual reports and quality manuals
  • Proactively review trial and commercial documentation involving these treatment pathways and participation in related meetings in the absence of lead coordinator.
  • Work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams, other professionals and agencies to ensure patient needs are met.
  • Participate in relevant outpatient clinics and departmental meetings as requested

2.Ìý EDUCATIONAL

  • Provide specialist education and training on the management of cellular therapy treatments delivered, sharing awareness/education with patients, nursing staff and other healthcare professionals
  • Maintain own professional development ensuring educational and mandatory training needs are met.
  • Remain up to date with current protocols and practices, maintaining specialist knowledge of cellular therapy treatments
  • Represent the organization and department nationally and internationally as appropriate
  • Promote a learning environment in which individuals take ownership for their professional Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý development. Develop and deliver education programmes as required in conjunction with the practice facilitator

3.Ìý LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT

  • Act as a role model providing expert specialist clinical knowledge to colleagues, and promoting patient focussed care
  • To support patients, families and the wider MDT to progress the establishment of standards for practice and produce care protocols. Participate in the audit process.
  • To lead/deputise as required at the planning meetings with medical and laboratory staff to coordinate the cellular therapy program in conjunction with the transplant/done coordinators and apheresis team. ÌýWork with directorate managers and key stakeholders to provide information required to demonstrate performance indicators are being met.Ìý
  • Participate in the evaluation of service delivery, identify areas for improvement and initiate and manage change

  • Maintain a sound knowledge base of relevant current related research.
  • Assist in the application and evaluation of current research findings in order to provide quality evidence based practice.
  • Develop research interests within the specialist field of practice.
  • Participate as required/requested in research and audit initiated by other members of the multi-disciplinary team
  • Review related research applications in relation to standard practice
