Main duties of the job

We are currently looking to a recruit a trainee Band 7 Advanced Clinical Practitioner to join our proactive, committed and dynamic Team of practitioners in Trauma and Orthopaedics (T&O) Service at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS).

We are seeking to expand our team further within the field of T&O to enable a 24/7 service to improve continuity and quality of our patients care; continuing to deliver prompt admissions and management, improved patient experience, prompt discharging resulting in a reduced length of stay.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will need to have secondary care experience in an acute clinical practice setting at band 6 Level, demonstrating managerial and leadership abilities. Trainee practitioners will be expected to complete an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice (ACP) under the support and guidance of our medical colleagues.Ìý

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Ìý ÌýAs a Trainee ACP, you are expected to work in conjunction with the 4 pillars of Advanced PracticeÌý
• Ìý ÌýYou will work as a trainee ACP under the supervision of the Advanced Clinical Practitioner or Designated Medical Practitioner (DMP)
• Ìý ÌýYou will practice clinically within agreed care protocols; these will be monitored by the Designated Medical Lead / Practitioner
• Ìý ÌýYou will complete a Level 7 MSc in Advanced Clinical practice and undertake competency-based patient assessment and examination to formulate a management plan for specific groups of patients admitted to UHS for diagnosis and / or treatments.
• Ìý ÌýYou will work across professional; departmental and Trust boundaries as required to develop and support patient-centred seamless care.
• Ìý ÌýOn completion of core training, MSc qualification and successful review at panel, you will progress to a Band 8a ACP within T&O.Ìý


WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for a flexible, enthusiastic and conscientious practitioner with leadership experience who can work well within a team with high workload demands. Ìý
To be successful in your application you will need to evidence a Level 4 or above (or equivalent) qualification in Maths and English, a degree in healthcare and be registered with a governing body (who support prescribing) and have a minimum of 2 years secondary care expertise in relevant speciality, i.e. T&O.

In return, you will gain an exciting opportunity to complete an MSc in advanced practice under the support and guidance of our medical colleagues and senior ACP Team. You will become an expert practitioner within the field of T&O care, enabling you to become an autonomous clinician within the multidisciplinary team, with progression to a B8a ACP.Ìý

Qualifications, knowledge and experience

  • Registered Healthcare Professional on relevant part of NMC / HCPC register
  • Completion of Healthcare Degree (or equivalent - Minimum 120 credits at L6 or evidence of Masters level study)
  • Committed and eligible for participation in and completion of MSc in area of speciality
  • Higher Education Institute approved course in supporting learners in practice or the ability to Provide evidence of: • Supporting a range of learners in practice • Supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice
  • Evidence of on-going personal and professional development
  • Basic keyboard skills with knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Significant Post Registration experience within chosen specialty
  • Broad awareness of wider Trust initiatives / pressures
  • Coaching/leadership experience
Desirable criteria
  • Completion of HTPA Competencies
  • Independent Non-Medical Prescribing Qualification
  • ILS trained
  • Evidence of ability to change or initiate practice
  • Registered on MSc Pathway as an experienced practitioner
  • Further study at Level 7 within relevant pathway
  • Leadership qualification (RCN, LDC, Edward Jenner, Elizabeth Garret Anderson, Nye Bevan)
  • Maths and English Level 2 or have recognised equivalence from the ENIC process
