This is a full-time, fixed-term maternity cover contract, commencing on the 20th January 2025 and concluding on the 19th January 2026.

Main duties of the job

You鈥檒l have the opportunity to:
鈥 聽 聽Lead on identifying, developing, and implementing a variety of cost-saving, transformational, and quality improvement projects across the Trust and local healthcare system.
鈥 聽 聽Enhance and streamline systems to ensure the highest quality data, while maximising the recovery of PBR-excluded drug spend. You鈥檒l work closely with informatics, contracts, and finance teams to ensure accurate SLAM reporting.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities


Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust spent circa 拢54m on medicines in 2021/22, of which approximately 拢48m was on PBR excluded medicines (i.e. high cost drugs excluded from tariff) and 拢6.7m on PBR medicines (i.e. medicines included in the tariff). 聽The pharmacy co-ordinates the medicines management cost improvement and transformation programme, which has consistently delivered over 拢1.5m for the last few years. 聽In addition, the Trust works closely with Surrey Heartlands CCG to support delivery of the QIPP programme and there is a joint medicines transformation programme to support the Guildford & Waverley ICP. 聽

The Lead Pharmacy Technician for Transformation & High Cost drugs, will work as part of the Pharmacy Business & Transformation Team, and will play a pivotal role in:

  • Identifying, developing and implementing a range of cost improvement, transformation and quality improvement projects both within the Trust and across the local healthcare system
  • Improving and maintaining systems and processes for high quality data and maximising the pass through of PBR excluded drug spend to commissioners; ensuring close working with the informatics, contracts and finance teams to ensure accurate SLAM reporting聽

In undertaking this role, the post-holder will make a contribution to delivery of the Trust鈥檚 鈥淭rue North鈥 objectives; and the achievement of financial balance within the Trust and across the local healthcare system.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BTEC/NVQ level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent Technician Registrant with the General Pharmaceutical Council
Desirable criteria
  • Supervisory or Management qualification
  • Project or programme management qualification e.g. PRINCE2, Managing Successful Programmes or equivalent

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Professional knowledge acquired through vocational training and experience
  • Substantial post-qualification pharmacy experience
  • Experience using hospital pharmacy systems
  • Knowledge and experience of establishing and/or managing systems and processes for PBR excluded drugs
  • Experience of designing and implementing cost improvement, quality improvement and/or transformation projects
  • Understanding of background to, and aims of, national and local healthcare policy/guidance and appreciate the implications of this on engagement and priorities
  • Specialist knowledge and skills relevant to the area of practice as developed through experience and CPD
  • Knowledge and experience of data analysis and interpretation of data
  • Advanced computer literacy, particularly databases, Excel
  • Experience of producing reports that meet the needs of end users
  • Experience of supervision or line managing others
  • Evidence of working effectively within multidisciplinary groups
  • Previous experience of delivering training and education
  • Evidence of activity in audit to improve practice
  • Experience of developing policies, procedures, evidence based guidelines, shared care guidelines
  • Current developments in pharmacy
  • Knowledge of changes occurring in the NHS and how this impacts upon the role and its priorities
  • Demonstrate an intuitive grasp of situations, based on deep tacit understanding and make decisions with limited information
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in using JAC
  • Contributor to at least one service development
  • Knowledge and experience of commissioning processes
  • Knowledge and experience of using Blueteq
  • Knowledge and experience of audit methodology
  • Experience of working with EPMA /EPR systems
