Surrey Pathology Services - Clinical Investigation Unit
12 hours per week (currently Tue and Thu morning but some flexibility)

Applications are invited from qualified nurses interested in working in our Clinical Investigation Unit, which is part of the merged Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS) between The Royal Surrey Hospital, Frimley Park Hospital Ashford/St Peter’s Hospitals and Royal Berkshire and Wexham Park Hospitals. The post is based at the Royal Surrey Hospital. The Unit is staffed by two Consultants, two other nurses who job share with this post and a Clinical Investigation Unit Assistant. Lipid clinics and a range of metabolic and endocrine function tests are carried out.Â
Cannulation and phlebotomy skills are desirable as are good communication and organizational skills. Computer literacy would be an advantage.

Main duties of the job
The purpose of the job is to ensure smooth running of CIU clinics and to process dynamic function tests (DFTs) which are tests of endocrine function. Â Â
The nurse will be based on CIU RSCH which is an out-patient unit. They will ensure smooth running of out-patients clinics and process dynamic function tests (DFTs) as necessary. She will also contribute to management of CIU.

•   To act as a leader, advisor and role model to less experienced staff, ensuring appropriate care is planned, implemented and evaluated
•   To support the Director in the management and facilitation of the development of staff creating an effective team.
•   To take responsibility for identified management/professional/clinical areas and projects under the direction of the Director.Â

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse Part 1 or 12
- Recent post qualification or equivalent experience in acute setting
- Demonstrates professional updating of knowledge in past one/two years
- Teaching qualification ENB 998 or City & Guilds 730 or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- First degree
- D32/33 {A1] Award
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- 2 years experience at E grade or above within acute hospital setting
- Can demonstrate up-to-date clinical credibility / competence
- Knowledge and understanding of current issues in acute NHS setting
- Knowledge of clinical governance issues such as complaints handling, clinical risk management
Desirable criteria
- Clinical audit experience
- Evidence of research based practice
- Evidence in changing practice and project management
- Dynamic function tests
