Probationary Period

All new staff to the Trust will be subject to a standard 6 month probationary period, the details of which will duly follow in your contract of employment.

All our staff will have a work base. However the Trust operates as an Agile Working Team therefore staff may be working from home on a regular basis as required by the service. Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Physician in Acute Medicine at Warwick Hospital.

South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust is committed to delivering high-quality acute care to patients with emergency medical conditions. This is a unique and exciting opportunity for a forward-thinking, highly motivated individual to enhance our existing Acute Medicine and SDEC service.

Our dynamic team of Acute Physicians is supported by experienced Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs) in providing daytime and evening cover, 7 days a week, to the Acute Medical Admission Unit (MAU), Medical Short Stay Unit (MSSU), Ambulatory Emergency Care (AEC), Acute Medicine Virtual Ward and the Emergency Department (ED). There is currently no overnight on-call commitment attached to this post.Ìý

Applications will be considered from Consultants (and those within 6 months of CCT) with a CCT in Acute and/or General Internal Medicine. Educational roles (via Warwick or Buckingham medical schools) may be considered on an individual basis.Ìý

Main duties of the job

Acute Medicine is part of the Emergency Division. The Acute Medicine service provides care for patients on our Medical Admission Unit (MAU) as part of the medical on-call, Medical Short Stay Unit (MSSU), and Ambulatory Emergency Care (AEC) that runs alongside our Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) service. These areas are part of the front-door redesign project and the post holder will be part of the ongoing development of this purpose- built unit.Ìý

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Principal Elements of the Post

To join the existing team of consultants supporting inpatient and ambulatory emergency care services in acute and general medicine at Warwick HospitalÌý

Daily MAU and MSSU ward round cover Mon-Friday 08:00-12:00 and 08:00-11:00 Sat and Sunday every 11 weeks

Daily post take ward round cover Mon-Friday 12:00-20:00 and 08:00-16:00 Sat and Sunday every 11 weeksÌý

Daily AEC cover Mon-Friday 12:00-20:00

Provide support and training for decision-makers working within the team

Supervision of acute medicine trainees (FY 1, FY2, GPVTS , ACCS, Local Employed Doctors and registrar in acute medicine

Participate in weekly departmental teaching

Involvement in other areas of specialty education e.g. bedside ultrasound training, MRCP etc.

Warwick Hospital works with 2 medical schools. The post-holder will participate in the delivery of teaching on the ward for the acute block of both universities. The acute block is a highly performing block where medical students in their last year of training rotate across acute medicine, emergency medicine, and simulated scenarios learning to manage acute emergencies.

The post-holder will have the opportunity to be involved in supervision and examination OSCE and OSLERs if so desired.Ìý
