Main duties of the job

Online applications are invited to apply for the 12 month post of a Senior Fellow with special interest in Limb Reconstruction and Trauma at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS). UHS has a busy limb reconstruction unit covering acute trauma, the sequelae of trauma as well as limb deformity. The post will also involve all aspects of general trauma as well as exposure to elective surgery. You will also contribute to the on-call rota.Ìý

We are a Major Trauma Centre serving the South as well as a University Hospital tertiary referral centre for elective orthopaedics. We are looking for a highly motivated Registrar grade equivalent surgeons who wish to further their trauma and orthopaedic experience.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

The post is intended for a Surgeon who is developing a specialist interest in Trauma & Orthopaedic surgery with additional option to be involved in elective surgery. There will be the opportunity to operate on elective and traumatic conditions both supervised and when suitable, alone. Audit and research are an expected part of this role.Ìý

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Applicants should have at least 3 years previous experience in trauma and orthopaedic surgery at ST3 level and above and be post FRCS or equivalent.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Appointment will be made under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust appointed (non-training fellow doctors and dentists).Ìý
Ìý
Successful candidates will have an educational framework equivalent to training grade doctors, and there will be a named educational supervisor assigned at the start of the post. The opportunity for Continued Professional Development (CPD) is highly supported and encouraged by the Trust, with options available to take study leave. All licensed doctors must meet the GMC requirements for revalidation and there will be an annual appraisal to support this process.

Grades for Trust appointed (non-training) fellows will be paid a basic salary at a nodal pay point linked to the grade, at the rate set out in the National Medical and Dental pay circular. Basic salary detailed below plus any additional remuneration (as applicable) for hours set out in the doctors work schedule (e.g. additional hours, weekend allowance, and any hours which attract enhanced pay)Ìý

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • GMC registration with a licence to practise
