Main duties of the job
Within General Surgery we are delighted to provide the opportunity for you to join our Surgical Advanced Clinical Practitioner team. The role will predominately be across two department (Emergency General Surgery and Upper GI) alongside the wider surgical ACP teams (Colorectal, Head and Neck, HPB and Urology). Ìý
The tACP’s/ACP’s are pivotal in supporting the patient pathway to reduce the length of stay and avoid hospital re-admission, whilst seeking innovative ways to support our most complex patients. We can offer opportunities to develop within a supportive environment and the team is committed to facilitating your learning and career progression. All applicants must have extensive and recent acute care experience either in a Surgical or Critical Care role.
You will be required to support the wider Surgical ACP, supporting acute admissions 1 in 4-6 weekends and covering late shifts and night shifts.Ìý
This role is also being advertised as a band 8a ACP post for staff that have qualified as ACP already

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
As an Advanced Clinical Practitioner, you are expected to work in conjunction with the 4 pillars of advanced Practice (Health Education England MultiProfessional Framework 2017)

• Ìý ÌýResearch – application of existing research and contributing to new research within the chosen speciality.

Your clinical role will include working alongside the medical & ACP team. You will be delivering an advanced level of practice within a specialist field. Your daily job plan includes supporting the medical ward rounds, to independently assess, investigate, diagnose, plan, implement, manage, and evaluate the clinical care for your patients.
Acting as a role model to supporting the junior medical team with practical clinical tasks such as completing bloods, cannulas, prescribing, ordering radiology investigations, discharge HMRs, referrals and patient education.Ìý
Your role will also be working within the MDT, supporting the patients Enhanced Recovery Pathway and working in combination with the ACP to develop the role to cover both inpatient and outpatient services ensuring patients receive the highest quality standard of care. Ìý
You will be required to provide education and clinical supervision to tACPs, nursing and medical surgical teams. Initiating and leading research and service developments to improve patient care.Ìý
You will be required to support the ACP/ tACP team which could include working within other surgical specialities and covering for a later day shift and at the weekends.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience
Essential criteria
- Registered Healthcare Professional on relevant part of NMC / HCPC register
- Completion of Healthcare Degree (or equivalent - Minimum 120 credits at L6 or evidence of Masters level study)
- Committed and eligible for participation in and completion of MSc in area of speciality
- Higher Education Institute approved course in supporting learners in practice or the ability to Provide evidence of: • Supporting a range of learners in practice • Supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice
- Evidence of on-going personal and professional development
- Basic keyboard skills with knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Significant Post Registration experience within chosen specialty
- Broad awareness of wider Trust initiatives / pressures
- Coaching/leadership experience
Desirable criteria
- Completion of HTPA Competencies
- Independent Non-Medical Prescribing Qualification
- ILS trained
- Evidence of ability to change or initiate practice
- Registered on MSc Pathway as an experienced practitioner
- Further study at Level 7 within relevant pathway
- Leadership qualification (RCN, LDC, Edward Jenner, Elizabeth Garret Anderson, Nye Bevan)
- Maths and English Level 2 or have recognised equivalence from the ENIC process
