Please see below for detailed job description of the role.
Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd
Senior Fellow in Cardiac Anaesthesia and Intensive Care commencing July 2025 for 3 months.
This position is based in University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, one of the busiest UK cardiac centres with some of the lowest mortality rates. There are 16 cardiac ITU beds and 22 all day cardiac theatre lists per week.
The post combines clinical duties with excellent teaching. Training will be provided in adult (and potentially paediatric) cardiac anaesthesia and adult cardiac intensive care and includes on-call cover for the adult cardiac intensive care unit.
Southampton has a long established, successful fellowship in cardiothoracic anaesthesia and intensive care. There is formal consultant-led weekly teaching in cardiac anaesthesia, ITU and transoesophageal echocardiography. Support and training is given to those undertaking TOE accreditation. Further details may be found at www.southamptoncardiacanaesthesia.com.
The role offers wide exposure to all types of acquired adult and congenital cardiac disease except for cardiac transplantation. There is close involvement with the diagnosis of and surgical or other interventional management of cardiac disease. There are considerable opportunities for perioperative anaesthetic and intensive care management, including the use of perioperative transoesophageal echocardiography, pulmonary artery catheterisation, nitric oxide, aortic balloon counter pulsation, haemofiltration and, potentially, experience in ECMO.
