Job overview

We are seeking four enthusiastic Consultant Endocrinologists to join our Diabetes and Endocrinology Team. ÌýThis is an excellent opportunity for candidates wishing to pursue a career in Diabetes & Endocrinology. The successful candidate will join an innovative established team of Consultants, Junior Doctors, Dietitians and Specialist Nurses providing outpatient and inpatient care.Ìý
The post-holder will work with colleagues to support and develop Diabetes and Endocrinology services for the local population. The post currently involves working across Watford General Hospital, where the emergency services are based as well as other sites, St Albans City Hospital and Hemel Hempstead General Hospital. There is a plan to centralise a significant part of outpatient services on the Hemel Hempstead General Hospital site in the next couple of years as part of the Trust redevelopment plans.
Applicants must have full GMC registration. MRCP (UK) is desirable

Main duties of the job

This post is for four whole time equivalent substantive Consultants in Diabetes and Endocrinology based at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The successful candidates will be expected to provide and support a broad range of outpatient sub - speciality diabetes clinics including PUMP/ Hybrid closed loop clinics, Young Adults, Multidisciplinary Footcare clinics, Complex diabetes clinics and general endocrine clinics. The Department already has various established multidisciplinary meetings with close collaborative working with other specialities including with tertiary colleagues. As the lead provider for Integrated Diabetes within South West Hertfordshire, the post holders will be expected to also carry out Diabetes clinics at one of our community sites across the area as well as work closely with primary and community care colleagues.
Duties of the post include about 5 outpatient clinics per week with rotational ward cover for inpatient care for GIM patients, supporting inpatient diabetes team, multidisciplinary footcare ward rounds, electronic triaging, and advice & guidance.

The successful applicants will work closely with other Consultants, Junior Doctors, Nursing staff, Managers, Medical Secretaries, Admin and other staff across the hospital sites, to deliver clinical services, partake in clinical governance and support the clinical leadership team to enhance patient safety and experience.Ìý
As part of the wider strategy towards consolidation of integrated care services across the local Healthcare Partnership, candidates will be required to have contact with patients, their carers/relatives as well as to work closely with primary care and community colleagues and other partners.
