Job overview

The Trust is seeking a substantive Respiratory Specialist Doctor with a specialist interest in Bronchiectasis/Host Defence/TB and a secondary interest in Asthma The successful candidate will contribute to inpatient and outpatient respiratory services, deliver specialist clinics, and play a key role in the bronchoscopy and non-invasive ventilation (NIV) service. The role also includes participation in virtual hospital support and multidisciplinary meetings (MDTs).allied healthcare professionals, and integrated care

The Specialist Doctor will provide leadership in Bronchiectasis and Asthma, working collaboratively with the existing team of respiratory partners to ensure high-quality care across the pathway. There is no commitment to the general medicine rota.

Main duties of the job

· Clinical Responsibilities:

· Provide inpatient care on a 30-bedded respiratory ward, including an 8-bedded Acute Respiratory Care Unit (ARCU)

· Contribute to a 1:10 weekend NIV on-call rota and a 1:12 weekday NIV rota with an availability allowance per NHSE and BMA guidelines.

· No commitment to General Internal Medicine (GIM) on-call rota.

· Hot Clinics/Virtual Hospital (1 in 10-week rotation, Monday-Friday, 9-5):

· Managing acute referrals from ED and urgent respiratory cases.

· Deliver four outpatient clinics per week

· 1 Difficult Asthma Clinic

· 1 Sleep Clinic

· 1 General Respiratory Clinic

· 1 Mixed triage session

· Participate in the Bronchoscopy rota (1 in 3 Wednesdays/Thursdays)

· Lead and support Bronchiectasis and Asthma MDT meetings

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

1.1 PA allocated for NIV on-call commitment (weekday/weekend rotas).

SPA commitment of 1.5 PA included in the 10 PA job plan; a further 0.5 once accredited as an Educational Supervisor total of 2 SPA

Additional Pas can be negotiated up to a 12 PA cap

Ward weeks: 9-5 Monday-Sunday, 1 week in 10

Hot clinic/Virtual hospital week: 9-5 Monday-Friday, 1 week in 10

NIV on-call rota:1 weekday in 12and 1 weekend in 10

-Zero” days available to adjust PA allocation as required

Person specification

Education and qualifications:

Essential criteria
  • CCT in Respiratory Medicine (or within 6 months of completion)
Desirable criteria
  • Accredited Educational Supervisor

Knowledge:

Essential criteria
  • Subspecialty experience in Host Defence (Bronchiectasis/TB) and/or Asthma
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in service development & innovation

Experience:

Essential criteria
  • Inpatient and outpatient respiratory medicine, including managing a range of respiratory conditions such as COPD, asthma, bronchiectasis,)
Desirable criteria
  • Previous participation in medical education and training, including the supervision of junior doctors, medical students, and allied healthcare professionals
