We are seeking a substantive Consultant Clinical Oncologist specialising in Breast cancers to join our team at University Hospital Southampton. This is a full time (10.25 PAs) post with less than full-time options available.

You will work alongside the established breast cancer Clinical Oncology consultant and multidisciplinary team to provide radiotherapy +/- SACT services as part of a busy and dynamic department. ÌýA second disease site alongside breast cancer is outlined in the job description as skin cancer; other tumour sites combined with breast cancer will be considered and applicants are encouraged to make contact to discuss options.

The cancer centre provides comprehensive services to a large local and regional population, with seven linear accelerators providing radiotherapy services including SABR and SRS. Image-guided and surface-guided radiotherapy are implemented across all treatment units.

This post will be clinically responsible for the care of patients with breast cancer within UHS and across the wider region. ÌýThe successful candidate with suitable training and enthusiasm would also have the opportunity to join the oligometastatic SABR service. ÌýDuties will include:

• Ìý ÌýAttending the weekly UHS Breast MDT and clinics
• Ìý ÌýPlanning and supervising radiotherapy for Breast cancer patients
• Ìý ÌýPlanning and supervising Systemic Anti Cancer Therapy for Breast cancer patients
• Ìý ÌýEngaging in Radiotherapy Peer review meetings
• Ìý ÌýTeaching and training specialist trainees in Clinical Oncology and the wider multidisciplinary team
• Ìý ÌýActively engaging in the management of, recruitment in to and running of clinical trials

A second subspecialist disease site of skin cancer is described in the job description. Applicants who wish to consider alternative second subspecialist disease sites are encouraged to apply and make contact for further discussions. ÌýThe skin cancer elements of the post will support the existing team at UHS and across the wider region, including provision of radiotherapy for melanoma patients and radiotherapy and SACT for non-melanoma skin cancers. Ìý

The role includes participation in an on call rota for the management of Clinical Oncology patients out of hours, providing advice during evenings and undertaking daily ward rounds during weekends and Bank Holidays (1:20)

The successful candidate will be employed under the terms and conditions of service for Consultants (England) 2003. ÌýÌý

Qualifications, Training & Experience

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • Broad experience in Clinical Oncology
  • Experience in the management of breast malignancies and/or skin malignancies

  • Recognised training in academic oncology with postgraduate qualification
  • SABR experience
  • Significant experience in Oncology research
  • Experience of working within the NHS
  • CCT in Clinical Oncology (including up to 6 months before CCT) or appropriate qualifications and experience to allow entry on to the Specialist Register
