Job overview
Following a recent internal move, we have an exciting opportunity for a permanent position in Head & Neck/Oncology! BHRUT SLT Team are looking for a Highly Specialist (Band 7) SLT to lead our Head & Neck/Oncology service across both of our sites (Queen鈥檚 Hospital/King George Hospital).听
The post holder should have extensive experience managing acquired swallowing and communication difficulties within an acute setting, with experience working with patients who have undergone treatment for head & neck cancer. You will take part in weekly MDMs and on-treatment clinic. There will also be opportunities to work across a variety of other Oncology specialties including lung, gastroenterology and haematology. You will also cover the benign ENT population across the wards, including tracheostomy and surgical patients. VFSS competencies and basic trache competencies are essential and FEES competencies desirable.听
Your role will involve lots of teaching within the SLT Team and wider MDTs. You will also be regularly involved in our 6 VFSS and FEES clinics per week.听
We鈥檙e looking for a motivated and highly organised individual to lead on day to day management of the H&N/Oncology SLT service incl. supervision of junior staff, and supporting complex decisions relating to swallowing and communication difficulties. You will receive regular supervision from the Clinical Lead SLT.听

Main duties of the job
To take responsibility for and demonstrate highly specialist skills in the holistic assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients with acquired swallowing and /or communication disorders secondary to head and neck cancer and other oncological conditions.听
To be able to make a differential diagnosis in complex cases on the basis of evidence.听
To provide support to the acute inpatient team to provide advanced therapeutic assessment, treatment and management of patients with communication and swallowing difficulties secondary to diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions including patients with tracheostomies and laryngectomies.听
To actively participate in the delivery and on-going development of bi-weekly Videofluoroscopy and Fibreoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) clinics including supporting junior members of staff to achieve competencies in this specialist area.听
To contribute to the development of bi-monthly dysphagia clinics with ENT and Gastroenterology colleagues for complex dysphagia patients.听
