Main duties of the job
To undertake the role of unit receptionist by meeting and greeting patients and relatives. Ensuring that their stay is as comfortable as possible.Ìý To deal with telephone enquiries from patients and other hospital departments and to assist in the booked admissions initiative relating to Endoscopy.Ìý To undertake clerical duties, the preparation of patient’s documentation and to use the computerised patient information system and assist with data collection as requested.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Meet and welcome patients and visitors to the unit and inform the appropriate unit nurse of their arrival.
Answer telephone and deal with enquiries both from clinical staff and the public concerning admission, transfer and discharge of patients. Ensuring correct information is made available, recorded or passed on to the relevant patient or member of staff.
Responsible for collating patients’ paperwork and scanning them into theÌý hospital system.
Preparing patients documentation ready for their admission.
Clerical duties, associated with admission/discharge of patients using the patient information system, in line with agreed time scales and ensure that all data is entered accurately into the computer.
Ensure all follow up outpatient clinic appointments are sent to the relevant bookings administrator.
Ensure all procedure reports are sent to their general practitioner.
To assist with the collection of relevant data for audit and to collate this as required.
To have knowledge and experience of use of electronic scheduling systems or willingness to learn.
To follow set procedures for dealing with
- Patient confidentiality
- Special patients, e.g. prisoners
- Private property/valuables
- Deaths on the ward
- Referrals to other consultants
- To perform other duties as may be required by the Ward Manager or her deputy
- Liaise with estates or other department regarding repairs and routine maintenance of building and equipment
- Participate in patient/survey audit as required to meet trust quality standards

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Good standard of education (equivalent GCSE maths/english)
Desirable criteria
- ECDL or equivalent experience

- Previous reception experience
- Experience of using PIMs system
- Customer Care experience
