Job overview
The Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust is involved in numerous multi-centre studies adopted onto the NIHR portfolio as well as studies initiated and conducted by our own staff (investigator led). All studies are coordinated at department level and overseen by the Research and Innovation (R&I) Office.
You will work as part of the R&I core Governance team with a focus on continually growing our collaborative and investigator led Research portfolio, while optimizing the delivery of high quality research within the organisation.听
The number of research studies within the Trust is continuously growing and we need someone who can engage at all levels with internal and external stakeholders, using a high degree of emotional intelligence, offer ongoing support, training and problem solve in a calm, logical manner, while working under pressure to competing deadlines.
The primary duty of the post holder will be to help manage and provide expert advice on Governance processes, while working with research delivery teams and the wider multi-disciplinary team in negotiating and setting up multiple studies. Experience in Research Governance and Regulatory requirements is an essential part of this role. 听
Main duties of the job
You will play a key role in supporting the research portfolio, working with the leadership team on leading on听 RBFT鈥檚 regional and national research meetings with the NIHR听 and other research stakeholders. Oversight and management of budgets, recruitment responsibilities, internal/external reporting, as well as line management of staff as required.
听Attention to detail and the ability to work both as part of a team and autonomously are essential requirements for this role.
Ideally you will have previous practical experience of research governance and working with all levels of staff across the organisation.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
路听听听听听听 Directly manage and lead staff, up to and including band 6 staff, within designated areas and through them ensure all members of the R&I Governance team are managed in accordance with trust policies and procedures.
路听听听听听听 The post holder will act as an expert practitioner in research governance and exercise a high degree of personal and professional autonomy.
路听听听听听听 The post-holder will also act as an expert resource on research governance issues to researchers throughout the Trust.
路听听听听听听 Deputise for Head of R&I or Senior Clinical Research Facilitator to ensure seamless continuity of R&I service
Work with Head of R&I to support accountability for research budgets and ensure that systems are in place for appropriate financial management in line with the NIHR and trust Standing Financial Instructions.
路听听听听听听 Sign off as authorised signatory on CDA鈥檚 / NDAs 听for research studies on behalf of the Trust
听
路听听听听听听 Manage and undertake appraisals for directly managed staff and ensure systems are in place for the appraisal of all staff within designated areas as per Trust policy

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Undergraduate Degree or equivalent professional qualification
- Evidence of training or experience in research governance / service development
Experience & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- An understanding of national research priorities, and the role of external bodies including IRAS, MHRA, NIHR, NICE and the Healthcare Commission
- Development and delivery of training programmes
- Managing a varied portfolio of research activity and related projects
Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
