This post is based at Prince Charles Eye Unit, King Edward VII Hospital, St Leonards Road, Windsor, SL4 3DP - and attracts a Fringe payment of 5% of gross basic salary.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Prince Charles Eye Unit for a senior nurse who is highly motivated to join the team as Lead Nurse for Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD).

The post holder will work as a member of the multidisciplinary Ophthalmology Medical Retina team caring for patients with conditions requiring intra-vitreal Anti-VEGF injections.

You must possess and be able to demonstrate excellent leadership and management skills.

We are seeking to appoint a compassionate and caring nurse who will be able to work closely with the Senior Team to deliver outstanding care.

The successful candidate will be part of a large and supportive team, working with the different ophthalmology sub-specialties.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be actively involved in the care of all patients.

Work autonomously, but within professional boundaries, to accurately examine,聽assess and diagnose patients with an undifferentiated diagnosis, from a聽physiological, psychological and social perspective, and plan clinical care聽accordingly.

Utilise skills and knowledge as an Independent Non medical prescriber to prescribe when clinically indicated within own competency and Trust protocols.

Work in close liaison with the ophthalmic teams / medical along with multidisciplinary teams within the Trust to ensure smooth management of patient care whilst delivering high quality evidence-based care.

Undertake assessments within virtual clinics for the AMD service.

Be accountable for the independent investigation, diagnosis and management of patients attending AMD.

Provide professional advice training and support within the role of ANP to a聽wide variety of contacts including patients, relatives, nursing and medical.

Initiate and participate in the maintenance of quality governance systems and聽processes across the organisation and its activities.

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse Adult
  • History Taking, Assessment and Diagnostics Module
  • Resuscitation (minimum Immediate Life Support)
  • Training in Mental Capacity
  • Evidence of leadership, management and speciality development
  • Student Supervisor/Mentor and Assessor Training
Desirable criteria
  • Masters degree or working towards
  • Non-medical Prescribing Module
  • Post-qualification in Ophthalmology

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent Clinical Experience within Ophthalmology at Band 6/7 level
  • Experience in facilitation/teaching/assessing/coaching
  • Experience of Leadership/Management
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of successful Change Management
