Job overview
This is a non-grid training position in the Department of Gastroenterology and Nutrition for a period of 12 months. The job is one of 4 registrar level responsibilities covering general gastroenterology and clinical nutrition.
The post holder will not be expected to contribute to the trustwide Hospital at Night rota but will contribute to the out of hours cover for the Gastroenterology / Hepatology rota which is covered from 0800 to 2000 7 days per week.听 Out of hours work would be paid in addition to the basic salary
Main duties of the job
The position complements 3 other registrars attached to the Department of Gastroenterology and Nutrition (i.e. total of 4 registrars). The responsibility of the post is to be part of the inpatient and outpatient services provided by the department. This includes (on a rotational basis) (1) inpatient and outpatient care of gastroenterology patients, (2) nutrition support for the trust (working in conjunction with the Nutrition Support and Intestinal failure Team) and (3) referrals from within and outside the trust. The responsibilities will differ slightly depending on the rotation.
Normal working day consists of covering the department unit from 08.30 to 17.30. The successful candidate will undertake duties on the ward, in the outpatient clinics, requesting patient investigations with decision support. They are expected to cover other colleagues in their absence.

Qualifications and Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- Medical Degree from a recognised University
- A minimum of 3 years full time post graduate training (its equivalent gained on a part time basis) or equivalent experience and competencies
- Previous experience in Paediatrics
Desirable criteria
- Other Educational Qualification (ALS/APLS/ATLS)
- Experience in paediatric gastroenterology
Eligibility
Essential criteria
- Full GMC registration
- Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice
Language skills
Essential criteria
- All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that are competent to enable effective communication with patients and colleagues
- Has understanding of the importance of communication within a clinical setting
Applicant requirements
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
