Clinical Psychologist

NHS AfC: Band 7

Sandwell & West Birmingham NHS Trust is a friendly, integrated healthcare provider focused on improving the life chances and health outcomes of our diverse population.

We have three strategic objectives:

People: To cultivate and sustain happy, productive and engaged staff.

Patients: To be good or outstanding at everything we do.

Population: To work seamlessly with partners to improve lives.

We run services from Midland Metropolitan University Hospital, Sandwell Health Campus, City Health Campus, Rowley Regis Community Hospital, Birmingham & Midland Eye Centre, The Lyng and Leasowes Intermediate Care Centre. Our GP practices and community teams provide care in schools, healthcare centres and at home.

Developing and caring for our People is fundamental. We were one of the first Trusts to provide the Real Living Wage, as well as a Live and Work scheme to support people at risk of homelessness into paid work and training. We offer a range of staff benefits, health & wellbeing support and will help you to bring your ambition to life through our bespoke training and development programmes. As 鈥淧eople鈥 is one of our three strategic objectives, we make a continued commitment to prioritise support for all our colleagues.

Healthcare services have a significant impact on the environment. We are committed to embedding sustainable practices. We expect all colleagues to support the delivery of our Green Strategic Plan and to drive positive changes in their department.

Job overview

This is an exciting, varied role, working alongside three experienced Clinical Psychologists in a service where psychology is well established and we are core team members.听听

You will be joining a friendly, supportive and forward thinking MDT, consisting of Pain Consultants, Nurse Specialists, Physiotherapists and Psychologists who strive together to deliver the highest quality pain service. 听You will be based at City Health Campus and required to work flexibly including working from home and working across a number of community clinics.

As well as providing individual assessment/therapy for our patients, there is opportunity to take an active role within our group programmes, in order to facilitate long-term pain self management. You will be part of the team leading the delivery of the Self-Management Programme, Pain Activity Group and monthly Pain Support Group. 听In addition, you will also have the opportunity to provide consultation and joint working within the team and contribute to service developments and research activity.听 We are strongly committed to providing supervision and CPD opportunities.

This role would suit a newly qualified practitioner psychologist, or someone wanting to develop their career further. 听You will need strong communication skills and enthusiasm for team working.听 Direct experience of working in Pain Service settings is not essential, as we recognise that people can transfer experience from other settings.听

Main duties of the job

To aid in the provision of a psychology service to the multidisciplinary Pain clinic, providing highly specialist psychological assessment and interventions and offering consultation on clients鈥 psychological care to non-psychology colleagues, working with regular supervision but also autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team鈥檚 policies and procedures. To utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the area served by the team/service.

Working for our organisation

Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWBT) is an integrated care听organisation with a budget of approximately 拢600 million and over 7,000 staff. Diversity and social care is at the core of what we do as the Trust provides Community and Acute Services to over half a million people in an urban centre that demands massive regeneration and has substantial premature mortality.听

Our new acute hospital, the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH), opens this year and will provide care to our local population from first class, purpose-built premises. As a result, the base of this role may change to MMUH . If this is applicable to your role, you will be informed during the recruitment process and continue your application with this understanding. The development of the new hospital will play an important role in the regeneration of the wider area and in improving the lives of local people and reducing health inequalities.听
