Consultant in Gastroenterology
听
We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated substantive Consultant in Gastroenterology to support and expand the high-quality services our Trust already offers. The successful candidates will complement the expertise of eleven other existing consultants in our large teaching trust, providing gastroenterology, hepatology and endoscopy to a culturally diverse population.
Main duties of the job
You will join a team of 11 Consultants and wider team of Clinical endoscopists and Specialists Nurses for IBD, Liver and Upper GI Cancer.听Our department has a reputation for being friendly and supportive with particularly good working relationships and there is capacity for a wide variety of sub-specialty interests to be accommodated and developed.
听
We have a 7-day GI bleed service including weekend ward rounds and you will be expected to join the on-call Rota. This post does not include on-call for general (internal) medicine. The Gastroenterology service is supported by comprehensive endoscopy, GI physiology, pathology, and imaging services. We perform diagnostic & therapeutic procedures including Gastroscopy, Colonoscopy, EMR for Complex polyps, ERCP,EUS, RFA , Duette EMR and Bowel Cancer screening. We have also started Trans nasal Endoscopy service and have been performing cytosponge as well.听 The

Consultant Gastroenterology Physicians must hold full GMC with a licence to practice and be on the Specialist Register or be within six months of obtaining your CCT award at the time of interview.

Research: The University of Birmingham would like to support research by offering two protected research PAs to recently appointed (within 18 months) consultants. Sessions will be prioritised for those with a commitment to research and an interest in an area of research that maps to University of Birmingham strengths. Qualifications:
Essential criteria
- 鈥 Entry on the Specialist Register in Gastroenterology (or CCT expected within 6 months from the date of interview)
- 鈥 MRCP (UK) or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- 鈥 Higher Degree
Clinical Experience:
Essential criteria
- 鈥 Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining CCT in Gastroenterology and General (internal medicine)
Desirable criteria
- 鈥 Special interest that complements the existing consultants
- Specialist interest in Nutrition
- 鈥 JAG accreditation for colonoscopy
Clinical Effectiveness
Essential criteria
- 鈥 Experience of conducting clinical audit
Teaching and Training experience:
Essential criteria
- 鈥 Ability to teach clinical skills to medical and nursing staff and other disciplines.
Desirable criteria
- 鈥 Formal training in teaching
Research, Innovation and Service Improvement Experience:

- 鈥 Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems

- 鈥 Publications in relevant peer-reviewed journals in the last five years.
