Job overview
Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust have invested in the radiology team and are looking to recruit enthusiastic, motivated, skilled radiologists to join the team of ten consultant radiologists, 2 consultant sonographers and 2 consultant reporting radiographers.Ìý
The successful candidate will have an interest in cross sectional imaging and any subspecialist intertest will be considered but the Trust is particularly, keen to recruit radiologists with a subspecialist interest in non-vascular intervention, paediatrics, gynaecology, neurology, and oncology. An ability to undertake nonvascular interventional procedures required in a busy DGH would be an advantage although any subspecialist interest would be considered.Ìý
The proposed job plan typically is 10 programmes activities. The successful candidate would support a cancer MDT with appropriate preparation time. CT, MR reporting, general and within their subspecialist interest. Ultrasound plus or minus some interventional activity and a small amount of plain film reporting. The Trust supports 1.5 SPA for personal development and individual quality with a further negotiable PA time for educational supervision or undertaking a lead role e.g., REALM lead, Audit lead, Guideline lead, and modality leads.Ìý

Main duties of the job
This post is initially offered as a 10 PA (session) subject to work schedule, agreed arrangements for organisation, and to mutual agreement with the Clinical Lead.Ìý
The direct clinical care (DCC) includes emergency work, outpatient activities, multi-disciplinary meetings about direct patient care and administration directly related to the above. the supporting professional activities (SPA) include participation in training, medical education, continuous professional development, formal teaching, audit, clinical management and local clinical governance activities.Ìý
This will typically consist of 10 sessions which will vary according to the experience and expertise of the candidate and departmental requirements.Ìý
Additional SPA s can be negotiated for extra Trust directed activity e.g., educational supervision, clinical tutor, audit lead appraiser duties (max 0.5 SPA)
The department offers a 7-day imaging service. Consultant Radiologists are resident on site until 8pm Monday to Friday on a rotational basis, and Saturday / Sunday for 6 hours.Ìý
Consultants are not expected to be on site during their SPA time but must be able to attend within a reasonable time in an emergency.Ìý
The job plan will be reviewed at 3 months and 6 months depending on the needs of the candidate and department. Further review is on an annual basis.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. To play an active role in the Radiology Service and to share with the other Consultant Radiologists, responsibility for the provision of appropriate services and advice.
2. Support of 7 day working, including resident on site Radiologist weekdays until 8pm Saturday and Sunday on a Rotational basis.
3. Communication and liaison with other departments within the hospital, both clinical and managerial.
4. Communication and liaison with agencies outside the hospital including the emergency services, GP Surgeries and Urgent Care Centres, tertiary trauma centre.
5. Leading clinically on a modality within your area of subspecialist interest.
6. Responsibility for the supervision, training and education of junior medical staff, with an active role in the training of radiographic, nursing and other staff.
7. Dealing with personnel and other managerial issues including supporting the clinical prioritisation of Imaging requests.
8. Continuing development of the service, using audit, the application of evidence-based medicine, support development of IT infrastructure, mentorship programme and developing evidence-based pathways within your area of expertise.
9. Support a culture of learning from excellence as well as learning from mistakes/errors including active contribution to the REALM meetings.
10. To support the wider organisation in medical professional matters.
11. To work collaboratively with other organisations within the Black Country STP.

Essential criteria
- GMC Registration
- FRCR or Equivalent
- MBChB, MBBS or Equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Sub Speciality training in Paediatric, Gynaecology, Cardiac, Nuclear Medicine, Oncology and Non Vascular Intervention.

- Post Graduate Degree's (Masters, Post Graduate Diploma or Certificate)
