Job overview
We are looking to recruit a band 5 speech and language therapist to work across our community long-term conditions team and the community neuro rehabilitation service.Ìý This post would be suitable for a newly qualified clinician or someone with previous band 5 experience looking to work with an adult caseload.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated speech and language therapist who is eager to learn as well as bring a fresh perspective to the service. You will have excellent interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills. You will be expected to work independently but to seek professional support and supervision from senior colleagues where necessary.Ìý
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be a member of a team of therapists working across primary and secondary care in Buckinghamshire.Ìý They will work alongside senior therapists and have access to support.Ìý The post holder will work within the community adult speech and language therapy team and as part of the community neuro rehab MDT.Ìý They will provide assessment, diagnosis and treatment of people presenting with communication and swallowing difficulties, offering care in people’s homes, care homes and outpatient locations across the county.Ìý The post holder will be required to travel throughout Buckinghamshire. They will be accountable for their own actions, recognising professional boundaries and competencies.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To manage a defined caseload and work with an agreed degree of autonomy and independence, with regular support/supervision from the speech and language therapy team.
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To identify, assess and make a differential diagnosis of communication and swallowing impairments and select appropriate patients and type of therapy for effective treatment.
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To develop clinical skills and professional knowledge through experience, training and supervision and to work towards developing competencies in agreed areas of patient management.
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To take part in the supervision of students with support.
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To take part in supervision of the work of SLT assistants and volunteers when required.
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To take part in the development and delivery of training to others.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Essential criteria
- Accredited Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent.
- Health and Care Professions Council Licence to Practice
- Registered Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
EXPERIENCE
Desirable criteria
- Varied clinical student placements in Adult Speech and Language Therapy Departments.
- Previous Band 5 speech and language therapy role in adults or paediatrics
SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE
Essential criteria
- Excellent interpersonal skills: ï‚· Able to listen well and counsel patients and carers. ï‚· Able to demonstrate empathy with clients, carers and colleagues. ï‚· Able to communicate effectively, particularly where barriers to understanding exist. ï‚· Able to demonstrate developing motivational counselling skills.
Desirable criteria
- Demonstrates negotiation and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrates good analytical and reflection skills. Able to reflect on practice with peers and clinical supervisor.
- Demonstrates good presentation skills, both written and verbal
- Demonstrates knowledge of specialist SLT assessment tools relevant to the client group.
- Demonstrates knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions
- Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of clinical governance
- Demonstrates awareness of the roles of other professionals
SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES
Essential criteria
- Able to travel throughout the county of Buckinghamshire for community visits.
