Advanced Practitioner in Ultrasound / SonographerÌýÌý

Band 7, Full Time & Part Time, £46,148 to £52,809 per annum (pro rata if Part Time)Ìý

The Imaging department at MKUH provides an essential service to the trust and includes ultrasound, CT, MRI, DEXA, mammography, as well as a general x-ray and interventional radiology service.Ìý
Due to the expansion of services, we are currently inviting applications from enthusiastic individuals for a full-time or part-time band 7 sonographer post to be based across all MKUH sites, to include the acute hospital site, 2 MKUH CDC locations of Whitehouse Park & Lloyds Court. The postholder must hold at least a UK postgraduate certificate in obstetric & gynaecological ultrasound &/or general ultrasound. The post holder will work autonomously, performing high quality imaging and issuing reports on all ultrasound examinations including obstetrics, gynaecology (including TA and TV), & abdominal as a minimum.Ìý

Main duties of the job
They will be expected to support both the service and its staff in continuing to maintain & develop the highest standards of imaging. In return the successful applicant will be offered a high standard of support towards their career pathway.
- To participate in the provision of Ultrasound services to Milton Keynes NHS Trust.
- To perform a range of highly specialised Ultrasound examinations.
- To independently provide a diagnostic report of the ultrasound examination for the referrer.
- ToÌýuse our freedom to act as independent practitioners to refer patients and give highly specialised advice to appropriate clinicians as a result of scan findings.
- ToÌýsupervise the professional training of a range of students & clinicians & ensure the highest ultrasound standards are observed and communicated. To educate and facilitate training in the practical aspects of ultrasound scanning and safe use of ultrasound and equipment.
- To manage the ultrasound workflow and ensure all data inputs are recorded accurately for both patient record integrity and statistical evaluation purposes.
- To contribute effectively to the delivery of an efficient and responsive ultrasound service, demonstrate partnership in professional development issues maintaining a high level of professional, ethical and technical standard through personal CPD.
- ToÌýparticipate in the Governance of the department in areas including Risk Management, Health and Safety, Research and audit/quality assurance activities.Ìý

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To provide an efficient Ultrasound service as authorised by the Clinical Director of Imaging requested by Hospital Consultants and GP's
- To evaluate and prioritise, according to departmental protocol and clinical information on any ultrasound requests and clerical aspects that cannot be handled by the clerical staff.Ìý
- LiaiseÌýwith medical staff when ultrasound requests are equivocal.
- ToÌýanalyse the clinical information and select the most appropriate scanning technique for the individual examination.
- To assess the individual communication needs of the patient and ensure advocacy is arranged e.g. interpreter present if required.

Qualifications and knowledge
Essential criteria
- PgC / PgD in medical ultrasound or equivalent
- Registration with national body
- Training beyond qualification
- Attended recent courses and conferences
- Dedication to Continuous Professional Development (CPD), and practical knowledge of ultrasound safety, QA, legislation, and health and safety requirements. Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office, and working knowledge of PACS/RIS systems
Experience
Essential criteria
- Relevant experience in an ultrasound specialty in the NHS
- Recognition of the role played by other specialties in patient healthcare
- Experience in digital systems, PACS & RIS
- Experience in audit and quality assurance programmes
