This role is patient facing and is critically focused on patient experience, leading by example, motivating and empowering other staff.Ìý Matrons will be highly visible and accessible for patients, visitors and staff and will assist the Trust in achieving the strategic objectives.
Main duties of the job
As a respected professional and experienced clinician, the matron will work with the Division to ensure that:
oÌýÌý Practices are quality driven in all areas
oÌýÌý High standards of care are set and delivered
oÌýÌý Patients are treated with compassion, dignity and respect, placing value on diversity
oÌýÌý Patients are cared for in a clean environment
oÌýÌý Best practice in infection control is practised
oÌýÌý Monitor and drive CQC fundamental standards and compliance
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Influence patient experience of care through clinical practise, clinical management and leadership, clinical governance, education, research, audit and professional activities.
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Provide clinical leadership across the surgical wards and outpatient departmentsÌý
Provide line management for specified ward sisters and clinic nurse leads.
The post holder may be required to participate in the Trust’s on call management rota.
The Matron will work with the Chief Nurse and corporate nursing team to support the delivery of quality initiatives across the Trust.

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered practitioner
- Evidence of further study at post registration level
- Evidence of successful management development
- Education to Masters level or equivalent experience
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience as a senior practitioner
- Experience of managing clinical teams and clinical risk
- Experience of managing a budget
- Awareness of role of audit and research
- Awareness of current developments in healthcare and professional nursing
Desirable criteria
- Project management experience
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Demonstrates the multi-disciplinary/multi agency approach to patient care. Evidence of developed change management skills
- Demonstrates effective leadership skills
- Evidence of being patients advocate
- Knowledge of related information and targets
- Evidence of working within the clinical governance framework
Skills
Essential criteria
- Professional & confident communication skills both verbal/written
- Organisational skills that demonstrate prioritisation, time management & attention to detail
- Ability to analyse complex problems and successfully implement workable solution
- Skilled communication with patients
- Ability to liaise with wide range of professionals
- IT skills i.e. Microsoft word and excel at basic level usage
- Able to demonstrate effective team working
