We’re looking for an enthusiastic and talented Senior Content Designer to join our User-Centred Design team to support digital products and services in the Primary, Community and Mental Health directorate.ÌýÌý

As a Senior Content Designer who is user-centred, you will specialise in making things easy for people to understand and use by designing how content is structured. Using evidence, you will design the content users need at every point in their journey - for example a digital application form, navigation elements, button text, error messages, emails and letters.ÌýÌý

Putting users' needs at the heart of your work, you will make people's interactions with our products and services as simple as possible.Ìý

Main duties of the job

As a Senior Content Designer you will be responsible for creating, evaluating, updating and reviewing content at all stages of the end-to-end user journey. At this role level, you will:Ìý

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Act as a lead specialist in your own area, using your judgement to make decisions and to coach and mentor others in your profession, both within the team and in the wider Community of Practice. Ìý

  • Take responsibility for content quality, mentoring content colleagues. Ìý
  • Review the work of others to assure quality. Ìý
  • Lead on content projects. Ìý
  • Engage with and contribute to the User-Centred Design community. Ìý

• Advise and coordinate staff in a one-one/small or large group basis, within the service.Ìý

• Deliver through others, and direct and critique their work.Ìý

• Guide others and make recommendations on the best tools and methods to use.Ìý

• Take responsibility for assuring the quality of content from more junior colleagues, and coach and guide them to improve.Ìý

• Understand and demonstrate awareness of Agile methodology and apply an Agile mindset to your work.Ìý

• Work in a fast-paced, evolving environment and use an iterative and flexible approach to enable rapid delivery.Ìý

• Show a deep understanding of end-to-end journeys and how content is affected within these journeys.Ìý

• Moderate content (in both draft and published forms) and ensure content can be re-purposed appropriately.Ìý

• Identify where journey fixes or content improvements need to be made.Ìý

• Ensure that content is regularly reviewed and evaluated, contributing to continuous improvements and iteration.Ìý

• Understand the implications of publishing content and manage the associated risks.Ìý

Qualifications and/or Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • A Master’s degree in an associated professional field (or equivalent qualification / experience).
  • Further evidence of relevant higher-level education and/or training.
  • Knowledge gained through practical experience of working at this level, across the range of work procedures and practices.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development.
Desirable criteria
  • FEDIP Senior Practitioner, or equivalent recognised advanced level professional qualification
  • Theoretical and specialist knowledge gained via relevant certification such as: o MISTC - Member of the Institute of Scientific and Technical Communicators
  • Knowledge of the NHS, other healthcare systems, or the health sector, including regional or national variations.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Practical experience in a content design role, with responsibility for creating, evaluating, updating and reviewing content at all stages of the end-to-end user journey.
  • Experience of developing content strategy and solutions, preferably for large-scale problems and high-profile events.
  • Experience of translating technical data and user stories into content that meets users’ needs, and successfully using a range of design approaches.
  • Experience of working on complex projects within a fast-paced, evolving environment, with an iterative and flexible approach to rapid delivery in an agile environment.
  • Proficient in the ability to visualise and present information and data in an appropriate format that helps stakeholders understand the significance of the information and data.
Desirable criteria
  • Proficient in software that enables the user to capture, create, populate and manipulate data structures and where appropriate unstructured data.
  • Proficient in a set of codes and syntax (supported by software tools) that enables the unambiguous translation of specified functionality into source code for the creation of computer programs.
  • Knowledge of web specific file extensions, Web 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 and other latest standards/ practices. Use of multimedia and Active-X controls.
  • Understanding of the nature of browsers and how to design cross-browser layouts. Effective knowledge of metadata (e.g. tags, XML) and related aspects of Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
