Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an innovative and inspirational pharmacist to join our expanding pharmacy team.

We are looking for a dedicated pharmacist that will provide clinical expertise and leadership within the pharmacy service to ensure a high level of pharmaceutical input and delivery of high quality antimicrobial stewardship service across the site. In post you will be an integral part of the MDT, promoting antimicrobial stewardship to a complex cohort of patients and play a vital role in the training of pharmacy, medical and nursing staff on antimicrobials use within the field. The post holder will have significant clinical experience and strong interpersonal skills and ideally with specialist level antimicrobial stewardship work experience.听

You must hold a Master of Pharmacy degree or equivalent and be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and will have completed a post-graduate diploma in clinical pharmacy.

You will be expected to undertake Emergency Duty Commitment (on-call), work weekends and bank holidays as part of a rota.

Main duties of the job

As an Antimicrobial pharmacist the duties would include:

Working closely with Consultant microbiologists and the Interface/Formulary pharmacist, to review the antibiotic formulary and local evidence-based antimicrobial guidelines for optimal and cost-effective prescribing in primary and secondary care.

To promote good antimicrobial prescribing practice across the acute site and Health board (for example, promoting intravenous to oral switches, 鈥渟treamlining鈥 broad-spectrum therapy, adherence to local guidelines etc.)

To have an active presence on the wards, acting as a point of contact between pharmacy, microbiology, and the infectious disease and infection control teams.

To audit antibiotic prescribing against guidelines, feeding back information gathered to individual consultants/GPs, specialities or directorates, and change practice if required.

To have responsibility for an agreed clinical area within the hospital.

As an Advanced Pharmacist you will have an ability to develop effective working relationships, to challenge and to prioritise your own work. 听You will need to be reliable, efficient, responsive and demonstrate a flexible approach to the needs of this challenging and growing service. The successful post holder will also require excellent communication skills, be self-motivated, innovative and committed to providing high quality care to patients.听

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Masters degree in Pharmacy
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Postgraduate MSc or Diploma in area of practice or equivalent experience or qualifications
Desirable criteria
  • Accredited supervisor for foundation or post foundation Pharmacists
  • Independent Prescriber
  • Aseptic Preparation and Dispensing of Medicines (Leeds University) or equivalent if role includes aseptics
  • Registered as QC if role includes aseptics
  • Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Specialist knowledge of medicines management systems and process in an integrated NHS
  • Knowledge and experience of healthcare
  • Specialist knowledge of own field of practice gained through diploma level training and experience
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrate specialist knowledge in more than one field
  • Practice Research Experience
  • Training and education of pharmacy staff and other HCPs
  • Experience of managing change
  • Experience of service improvement

Other

Essential criteria
  • Ability to travel between sites in a timely manner
  • Flexible approach to needs of the service to undertake on call work, weekend and evening opening
