Job overview

Applications are invited to join us in developing our service for our patients in West Wales. We are looking for a highly committed and motivated individual to join our Haematology team as we start to introduce subspecialisation into the health board. Our dedicated and forward-looking team of 7 consultants provide a comprehensive haematology service in the four hospitals in an area of outstanding beauty. This post will introduce a Myeloma subspecialty to our team as part of a redesign of haematology services across the Health Board and will continue to develop as part of the wider transformation process. Support for the post includes Associate Specialists, specialty doctors, clinical fellow as well as foundation trainees. The team also includes haematology CNS team and Specialist pharmacists.

Our vision is to provide a future proof service for our patients to ensure they can be cared for as close to their home as possible.听

Main duties of the job

Clinical - The appointee should be able to demonstrate experience in the management of Lymphoma and General Haematology. The successful candidate will develop this subspecialty across the health board and working alongside the generalist consultants.


Inpatients - The appointee will participate in an attending and on-call rota for the Carmarthen site. At the three peripheral sites, the contribution is consultative to the local medical team.


Outpatients - The appointee will be expected to participate in 3-4 clinics per week, within Myeloma and General Haematology. Consideration for other subspecialist workload could be considered, depending on applicant鈥檚 experience to date.


There is a weekly health board wide MDT and opportunities to join other MDTs from all Wales MDTs.


The duties outlined below are not definitive and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service.
鈥 听 听The appointee is required to have full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
鈥 听 听The appointee will contribute to all aspects of the general haematology and haemo-oncology work including participation in departmental meetings and on-call rota.
鈥 听 听10 Sessions with 1xSPA per week.
鈥 听 听Clinics in other hospital sites will be required (virtual clinics are an option). 听 听 听 听听
鈥 听 听The appointee must be someone who can help develop our rural service to ensure excellent patient care.

Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
  • Valid Certified Advanced Life Support Skills
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • FRCPath or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Appropriate Higher Degree e.g. MD, PhD or MSc or equivalent
  • On Specialist Register with GMC or CCT due ) within 6 months of interview date
  • Or CESR or equivalent European Qualifications for Specialist Registration

Clinical Experience
