Job overview

The post holder will be required to undertake clinical checking, maintain accurate patients clinical notes, with prompt completion of discharge summaries.听

Assist in the teaching and training of Junior Medical Staff and undergraduate students and participate in regular audit meetings.

Main duties of the job

The holder of the post will be accountable to the Consultant Physician and Hospital听
Director within General Medicine.
This is a permanent contract and you will join colleagues in a very dynamic and forward听 looking General Medicine/ Gastroenterology service. You will be part of the medical oncall team and you will be supported and encouraged to develop a specialist interest in听 Gastroenterology.
This is an ideal opportunity for those wishing to enter a specialty training programme but听 need some more time/experience, those working towards MRCP/CESR (you will be听 supported to complete these) or those who have decided to enter a non-training post.听
You will be expected to partake in Gastroenterology ward rounds and out-patient clinics.听
You will be supported to develop skills in gastroenterology techniques.
You will be encouraged to develop a portfolio to reflect your developing skills.
You will be supported in performing appropriate quality improvement projects and audits.
You will be encouraged to organise and support teaching including ECG workshops.

48 general practices (six of which are managed practices), 47 dental practices (including three orthodontic), 99 community pharmacies, 44 general ophthalmic practices (43 providing Eye Health Examination Wales and 34 low vision services) and 17 domiciliary only providers and 11 health centres;

Numerous locations providing mental health and learning disabilities services;

Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practice
  • Valid Certified Advanced Life Support Skills
  • 4 years full time postgraduate training (or part time equivalent), at least 2 of which in a speciality training programme in a relevant specialty.
  • MBBS or recognised equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Wider experience, research and training in providing sub speciality service
  • Additional clinical qualifications

Clinical Experience

Essential criteria
  • Commitment to team approach and multi-disciplinary working
  • Broad based experience in General Medicine
  • Experience of NHS with knowledge of UK hospital systems (or equivalent)
  • Knowledge and participation in CPD
  • Competence in Acute General Medicine
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of risk management
  • MRCP 2 level, paces pending or full membership MRCP

Clinical Governance

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of participation in clinical audit and understanding role of audit in improving medical practice

Research

Essential criteria
  • Experience and knowledge of critical appraisal of evident so as to improve clinical outcomes.

  • Evidence of initiating, progressing and concluding research projects with publication
