We are seeking Band 5 Occupational Therapists to join our rotation, who are interested in developing their career in Pembrokeshire. 听West Wales is a leading example of an integrated rural healthcare model and offers excellent opportunities to develop your skills in many areas of practice. Our rotations are every 6 months giving regular opportunities to learn new skills and be part of supportive and friendly teams.

Pembrokeshire is an area of outstanding natural beauty with access to coastal areas, a wide variety of outdoor activities and cultural events.

We can offer you experience in a wide variety of clinical areas, with options of rotational posts in specialties including:

  • Acute Medicine, Trauma and Orthopaedics
  • Acute & Community Mental Health听
  • Stroke services- supporting Acute and Community
  • Community Rehabilitation in Rehabilitation Hospital and at Home
  • Social Care
  • Paediatric Services

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to work as part of a team to deliver high quality, evidence based and person centred occupational therapy, supporting our integrated model of care focused on enabling people to engage in meaningful occupations.听

You will have the support of an occupational therapy team, with opportunities to develop your practice and skills in a variety of areas.

Working for our organisation

Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. Our 11,000 members of staff provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services for around 384,000 people across a quarter of the landmass of Wales. We do this in partnership with our three local authorities and public, private and third sector colleagues, including our volunteers, through:

Four main hospitals: Bronglais General in Aberystwyth, Glangwili General in Carmarthen, Prince Philip in Llanelli and Withybush General in Haverfordwest;

Seven community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron, Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire Hospital Health and Social Care Resource Centre in Pembrokeshire;

48 general practices (four of which are managed practices), 47 dental practices (including three orthodontic), 99 community pharmacies, 44 general ophthalmic practices (43 providing Eye Health Examination Wales and 34 low vision services) and 17 domiciliary only providers and 11 health centres;

Numerous locations providing mental health and learning disabilities services;

Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

Qualfications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Current HCPC registration
  • Knowledge of relevant current health and social care legislation applicable to role
  • Knowledge and application of Microsoft Office software
  • Understanding of the roles of other staff groups in health and social care
  • Awareness of clinical governance, including research and audit methodology
  • Awareness of relevant outcome measures to demonstrate effectiveness
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of other services that link across primary/secondary/intermediate care
  • Working knowledge of therapeutic equipment.
  • Knowledge of a range of rehabilitation interventions across all therapies.
  • Knowledge of Health Board and priorities

Experience

  • Experience of working in therapy or other relevant field, which may include practice education, voluntary or paid employment.
  • Working with a variety of people with differing needs
