Senior Optometrist

NHS AfC: Band 7

Job overview

This is an excellent opportunity to join our dynamic and forward thinking Ophthalmology Department. Our multidisciplinary team work closely together and currently comprises of 10 Consultants, 9 Optometrists  and a substantial team of  Orthoptists, Ophthalmic Nurses, photographers, technicians, and healthcare assistants.

We are looking to appoint a specialist optometrist. to a permanent full time clinical post although job share and part time would be considered. The role will involve core optometry duties alongside specialist extended roles with a focus on supporting additional qualifications and training in a range of sub-specialties as required.

Our Ophthalmology department benefits from an Eye Clinic Liaison Officer, admin booking teams, with a supportive management team within our Specialist Surgery clinical business unit.

Our Ophthalmic Services are mainly based at the Warrington site but many clinics are held in community for ease of patients and the successful candidate would have the opportunity to work across the Warrington and Halton area, although this is not essential to the role.

Main duties of the job

We foster a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach to our services. The post will not only involve core optometry roles including both paediatric and adult refraction, low vision and therapeutic contact lenses, but also extended roles including cataract, eye casualty, glaucoma, medical retina and ARMD depending on experience and area of interest.

You must hold a degree in Optometry  and be registered with the General Optical Council. Previous  hospital experience would be an advantage but is not essential.

Warrington Hospital is home to our emergency, critical care and maternity services, Halton Hospital is focused on elective procedures and the Runcorn Urgent Treatment Centre, although many services are offered at both sites and in community hubs.

A CQC-rated ‘good’ organisation with ‘outstanding’ features, we are working towards university hospital status, having achieved teaching hospital status in 2019.

We employ nearly 5,000 people from over 80 nationalities, striving to be a diverse, inclusive employer and recognised leader in equality. We support flexible working, welcoming flexible applications. Proud of our many accreditations, we are embedding an anti-racist approach in all we do.
