Medical Oncologist: Urology and Colorectal Cancer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Medical Oncologist in urology and colorectal cancer to join our friendly, forward-looking team of oncologists at the James Cook Cancer Institute caring for patients in Teesside, North Yorkshire and County Durham.

Main duties of the job

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust warmly welcomes applications for this 10 PA post to join the team. We are currently advertising this substantive medical oncology post, but there will be some other opportunities arising in the next 6-12 months for both clinical or medical oncologists, so if you are interested in working in our cancer centre, you are welcome to get in touch. Candidates who do not wish to work full time for personal reasons will be eligible to be considered for the post.

Working for our organisation

This is a replacement post for consultant retirement, so, you will be joining existing, experienced teams and there may be some flexibility in the tumour sites we can offer.

Successful applicants will work alongside enthusiastic, dynamic, research active teams who have a track record of innovation and technical developments.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC registration
  • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC
  • MRCP or equivalent General Medical qualification
  • Relevant CCT or equivalent (‘equivalence’ must be confirmed by PMETB/GMC by date of AAC)
Desirable criteria
  • Training in appraisal techniques

Clinical experience and effectiveness

Essential criteria
  • General Oncology experience
  • Evidence of clinical audit
  • Site specialist training in urological, and colorectal malignancies
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of research or innovative service developments

Management and administrative experience

Essential criteria
  • Management training
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of management and administration experience
  • Success in obtaining funding for research

Teaching and training experiences

Essential criteria
  • Experience of supervising resident medical staff
Desirable criteria
  • Other teaching skills/experience
