We are delighted to advertise the post of Matron for Neonatal, Children and Young People, this is an exciting opportunity for dynamic and experienced Children’s nurse to be appointed into a senior leadership role, which will support the Deputy Associate Director of Nursing for CYP to drive high standards of quality care and patient experience.
The post holder will oversee a diverse portfolio, which includes a general children’s ward, elective day surgery, children’s assessment area, outpatients department and neonatal unit.
As part of the senior nursing team you will have the opportunity to shape services to ensure they are responsive and child focused.
There is an expectation that you will not only demonstrate expert clinical knowledge and high standards, but present skills that will enthuse, innovate, support and challenge our team to achieve an exceptional service for our local families.
Main duties of the job
As the successful candidate you will:
Provide visible leadership and clear direction to the staff for which they are accountable ensuring delivery of safe, high-quality care aligned with organisational strategic vision.
Accountable for the both the standard of nursing care and clinical environment within identified area of responsibility. The post holder will work collaboratively with clinical teams to maintain high- standards of care, infection prevention and control practices and ensure patients’ privacy and dignity always maintained.
Highly visible and accessible to staff, patients and visitors/family members and be able to assist where issues cannot be resolved by the Sisters/Charge Nurses/Team Leaders
Part of your role will be to on a regular basis deliver direct patient care meeting requirements of a registered nurse/midwife including assessment, care planning and evaluation of care.
Provide effective line management of Senior Sisters / Charge Nurses/Team Leaders within the area for which they are responsible is fundamental in order to support a culture of consciousness to deliver financial balance and achievement of efficiencies.
Deputise for the Associate Director of Nursing & Midwifery as required.
Support the delivery of targets and key performance indicators to improve access to Children & Young People services whilst improving the quality of patient care.

Working for our organisation
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life-threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Our community services for adults are provided in people’s homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • Educated to Masters level or equivalent relevant experience
- • Registered Childrens Nurse
- • Evidence of relevant ongoing professional development
- • Level 3 Safeguarding Children
Experience
Essential criteria
- • Demonstrable management and leadership experience
- • Experience of governance, risk management including of clinical risk, incidents, complaints
- • Experience of managing workforce and operational competing priorities
- • Knowledge & understanding of safeguarding process
- Proven ability to develop teams and maintain constructive working arrangements at all levels and with all disciplines
- Proven senior nurse experience within an acute BCYP services.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
