Bank Dentist- Out of Hours Emergency Dental Service

Negotiated local rate per session

Job overview

NCIC Special Care and Community Dental Service is seeking to recruit additional local dental practitioners to the team of experienced dentists participating in the Out of Hours Emergency Dental Service managed by the Trust atÌý West Cumberland Hospital.

This scheme provides emergency and urgent care to patientsÌý who have been initially triaged by trained dental care professionals and NHS111.

The four-hour sessions are undertaken atÌý West Cumberland Hospital Friday evenings 1800-2200, weekends and bank holidays 0900-1300, 1330-1730 and 1800-2200. Shifts are allocated to a bank of clinicians on a rota basis.Ìý

The Trust liaises closely with NHS England who commission this service and the Local Professional Network. There is a locally agreed sessional rate with enhancements for bank holidays.Ìý

This role would suit experienced dentists who wish to contribute in the provision of emergency and urgent care to the local population and to develop and enhance this particular skill.

Main duties of the job

The main role of the Primary Care Dental Officer is to provide emergency and urgent care identified through theÌý dental triage process.

The duties may require under exceptional circumstances to operate beyond the normal operating hours. This may be to accommodate the late arrival of an emergency patient or to complete urgent treatment already commenced. It is expected that these instances should be few in number, by exception and occur only when no other clinical alternative is possible to ensure the safety of the patient.

You will be working as part of a small clinical team in a dental surgeryÌý at West Cumberland Hospital. Patients are triaged in advance byÌý call handlers and trained dental nurses in partner organisations and booked directly into clinic slots.
