Job overview
Come and join our friendly department in a beautiful part of the country! We are seeking a suitably experienced Hearing Therapist/Senior Rehabilitative Audiologist to work in this busy department, which covers all aspects of paediatric and adult audiology across a large urban and rural community, following the retirement of our long-serving therapist. You will be expected to have either the recognised Hearing Therapy qualification or a BSc in Audiology with recognised higher training and post-graduate education in rehabilitative audiology. Given the changes in education and training over time, of course equivalent experience and qualifications will be considered. Main duties of the job
1.ÌýProvides clinical service in rehabilitation of adults with hearing loss, tinnitus, hyperacusis and related conditions, and diagnostic service for patients of all ages
2.ÌýAssists with clinical supervision and training of staffÌý
3.ÌýUpdates own professional knowledge, keeping abreast of new technology and rehabilitation methods.
4. Undertakes audiometric tests on in/outpatients (for dual qualified staff)

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Rehabilitation duties
¨ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To provide a comprehensive assessment and treatment of patients with Hearing problems, Tinnitus, Misophonia and Hyperacusis including those with diverse or complex presentations/multiple pathologies and use advanced clinical reasoning skills and diagnostic assessments.
¨ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To manage the assessment, development and implementation of appropriate specialised Rehabilitation Care Plans for patients with hearing loss, using highly specialised counselling skills.
¨ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To evaluate patients with Communication and Auditory Disorders, and devise appropriate Care Plans for them, including onward referral to other agencies/ Hospital Departments.
¨ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To deliver specialist educational packages to Carers and other Health Professionals who interact with the general public, including Deaf Awareness.
¨ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To give talks and/or demonstrations to other members of Health Service Staff/Social Services.
¨ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Take accurate aural impressions of adults and children
¨ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Modify ear moulds using the range of laboratory equipment available
¨ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Following nationalÌý and departmental guidelines and protocols, but with an understanding of when these can not be adhered to:
oÌýÌýÌý Select appropriate hearing aids and prescription formulae based on the needs assessment and diagnostic test results
oÌýÌýÌý Accurately fit digital hearing aids to adults using real ear/probe microphone measurements, and assist senior staff in fitting children and adults with learning difficulties
oÌýÌýÌý Follow-up to enable fine tuning of digital hearing aids and onward referral to other specialist services
¨ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Manage distressed or angry patients sensitively, especially when disclosing test results and management options
¨ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Provide audiological management to patients with significant co-morbidities, including mental health problems, with support from senior staff
¨ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Ensure patients and/or significant others are fully aware of the use of any devices issued
¨ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Fault finding to provide a timely hearing aid repair service
¨ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Provide expert advice to other staff, including wards, health visitors and ENT

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • BSc in Audiology or equivalent
- • Recognised counselling/therapy qualification
- • Registered as Clinical Physiologist in Audiology (AHCS) or Clinical Scientist in Audiology (HCPC)
Desirable criteria
- • Recognised Hearing Therapy qualification
- • Certificate in Lip-reading Teaching
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- • Therapeutic audiological rehabilitation
- • Proven knowledge of environmental aids & assistive listening devices
- • Proven evidence of recent CPD
Desirable criteria
- • Proven knowledge of patient management system
Aptidude and abilites

- • Good communication skills, written and verbal, with ability to demonstrate fluency, clarity and effectiveness at all levels.
