The post holder will work as part of a flexible team based in the Pre-Treatment area covering CT and Patient Support areas of the Radiotherapy Department. The post holder will work in a senior capacity under the direct supervision of the CT team lead and / or CT and Patient Support Specialist Radiographer providing cover for both CT scanning and Radiotherapy Support Services.
The post holder will be required to: -
Be directly responsible for patients and under their duty of care for CT service and Patient Support service.
In the absence of a CT/Patient Support lead manage all aspects of the workload, within individual scope of practice and competency framework.
Provide daily supervision and training to junior staff, students, and visitors including taking part in signing off staff/student competencies.
ÌýAdhere to all National and Local policies and procedures and be fully conversant in the IR(ME)R and IRR requirements for their clinical area and able to act as a point of reference for the department.
ÌýWill actively participate in service improvement, national and local clinical trials.
***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***
Main duties of the job
Provide support to CT lead radiographer and patient support specialist radiographer and manage all aspects of the service in the absence of both leadsÌý to ensure smooth and effective service.
ÌýWill be directly responsible, under their individual duty of care, for CT scanning, simple planning, time management and care of patients undergoing Radiotherapy Pre-Treatment procedures and patients on treatment.
Provide daily supervision, education and training to junior staff, students and visitors.
Work closely with all MDT parties to provide a thorough, efficient service encompassing all aspects of accurate Radiotherapy planning, treatment delivery and patient care.
Adhere to all National and Local policies and procedures and be fully conversant in the IR(ME)R and IRR requirements for their clinical area and able to act as a point of reference for the department.
Will actively participate in service improvement, national and local clinical trials.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Radiotherapy CT:
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To provide safe and accurate specialist CT Scanning services allowing consistent and accurate delivery of therapeutic ionising radiation, while maintaining a high duty of care to all patients undergoing Pre -Treatment appointments and procedures.Ìý
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To undertake and, in the absence of a Band 7, lead on all CT scanning tasks as a senior team member team including Cannulation, contrast delivery, 4DCT, breath-hold techniques, palliative Eclipse planning and any future developments.
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Ensure compliance with all safe working practices under IR(ME)R 2017 AND IRR 2017
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Ensure referral requests for Radiotherapy are completed and valid.
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To demonstrate effective patient management and skills encompassing all patients’ needs, using specialist knowledge of Pre-Treatment procedures.Ìý
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To undertake, patient consultations for preparing for CT scans & treatment and start of treatment reviews.Ìý
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý To Maintain knowledge of requirements and limitations of the treatment delivery service to allow optimal patient positioning.
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Demonstrate ability to resolve complex treatment and planning issues with problem solving skills and effective autonomous decision-making.

Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Specialist proven knowledge of CT equipment and techniques within Radiotherapy backed up by demonstrable evidence of experience and/or relevant qualificationsy.
- Broad demonstrable experience and proven understanding of CT procedures within Radiotherapy and virtual simulation.
- Proven in depth practical understanding of Radiation protection measures under IR(ME)R 2017 and IRR 2017.
- Effective management skills including time management, high level of organisation, ability to meet deadlines, can plan and prioritise own work, self awareness.
- Demonstrable experience in radiographer led patient review services.
- Proven evidence of knowledge of treatment side effects and current patient information/advice to enable effective working in Radiotherapy Support Services.
Desirable criteria
- Demonstrable experience with Varian Equipment and ARIA.
- Demonstrable experience of treatment planning including use of Eclipse planning system.
- Demonstrable experience of outlining organs at risk.
- Additional CPD/Qualification in CT procedures
APTITUDE AND ABILITIES
Essential criteria
- Ability to communicate complex information across professional boundaries (i.e., when resolving complex treatment issues concerning patient set-up, patient reactions, patient documentation, patient radiation dose prescription or changes required to achieve accurate patient treatment.)
- Demonstrable ability to teach and educate other professional staff.
- High level of concentration needed, must be able to concentrate when subject to unpredictable working patterns, whilst delivering highly complex and potentially damaging radiation treatment.
- Ability to respond and manage interruptions by clinical staff or patients with requests or problems whilst treating another patient.
- Leadership skills to manage and maintain the efficiency of the Pre-Treatment team and workflow.
Desirable criteria
- Required to use computer systems and VDU equipment including excel, word etc. to produce documents and spreadsheets for audit. Be able to extract the information and produce a post audit report.
- Able to enter data into and extract data from specialist databases.
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Degree in Therapeutic Radiography or equivalent. DCR (T) or BSc (Hons)
- HCPC Registration Radiographer.
- Robust C.P.D. Profile with proven evidence of additional CT and/or patient support training.
Desirable criteria
- Masters Level professional development.
- CT related training course eg cross sectional anatomy
