At Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital we offer outpatients, rehabilitation and intermediate services. At Uckfield Community Hospital we provide day surgery and outpatient care.

In the community, we deliver services that focus on people with long term conditions living well outside hospital, through our integrated locality teams working with district and community nursing teams. Community members of staff also provide care to patients in their homes and from a number of clinics, health centres and GP surgeries.

Job overview

We are looking to expand our phlebotomy service at Eastbourne EDGH and are able to offer a part time post of 25 hours a week. The post will require some weekend and bank holiday working and may on occasion require working at other ESHT sites.

As a service we provide a phlebotomy service to the hospital wards seven days a week and busy outpatient clinics week days only as well as a new Community Diagnostic Center unit in Bexhill.

We are looking for applicants with Phlebotomy experience and are competent in the use of Vacuette system but training will be provided to candidates with the right qualities to join this busy team.ÌýÌý

The successful candidate will be required to complete a probationary period during which they will undertake a competency assessment supported by the team leader.

Main duties of the job

To collect blood samples from patients in accordance with venepuncture, infection control and laboratory policies and procedures. ÌýThis will include collecting samples within the hospital and the Phlebotomy Clinic in order to achieve efficient and effective patient care and effective resource management within the hospital.

The post holders will be required to complete and pass an in-house venepuncture competency programme.ÌýÌý

The post holder must be polite and diplomatic whilst speaking directly to medical staff or patients and provide advice solely on the process of obtaining samples within Phlebotomy.Ìý They greet patients, take telephone bookings and enter details on the department’s computer when a receptionist is not available.Ìý
