At Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital we offer outpatients, rehabilitation and intermediate services. At Uckfield Community Hospital we provide day surgery and outpatient care.

In the community, we deliver services that focus on people with long term conditions living well outside hospital, through our integrated locality teams working with district and community nursing teams. Community members of staff also provide care to patients in their homes and from a number of clinics, health centres and GP surgeries.

Main duties of the job

Upon your successful appointment, you will hold a clinical caseload, and work in a range of settings including paediatric ward, special care baby unit and outpatient clinics.Ìý You’ll play a key role in helping us develop new resources and improving the paediatric dietetics service for our patients. The post holder will also be required to attend meetings or training across the wider county of East Sussex therefore being a car driver / owner is essential for this post.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting a varied paediatric caseload, across a variety of clinical conditions. You will be part of a friendly, supportive, professional team, and will be fully supported to develop your professional skills and areas of special clinical interest. We offer regular supervision and competency training opportunities for your ongoing professional development, along with improving patient care.Ìý Where identified in your appraisal and in line with service development we also have access to post graduate university funding for individual masters modules for professional development.

The paediatric team forms part of our close knit & supportive Dietetic Department that includes over 40 clinicians & associated staff, supporting the specialities of paediatrics, diabetes, intensive care, inpatients, acute rehabilitation, general outpatients & community nutrition support.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To be responsible for the specialist nutrition and dietetic management of paediatric patients referred for nutritional advice in East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (including assessment and treatment) using specialist knowledge and skills.

To independently manage and treat paediatric patients in the acute and community setting under the supervision of the Lead Paediatric Dietitian.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 4 year degree in Dietetics or equivalent with current State Registration with Health Professional Council
  • Evidence of further postgraduate experience in specialist area
Desirable criteria
  • Postgraduate training in behavioural change/ motivational interviewing techniques

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 18 months in general dietetic practice & NHS experience
  • Experience of enteral nutrition.
  • Undertaking new patient assessment and treatment
  • Training of Student Dietitians
Desirable criteria
  • Paediatric experience
  • Conducting patient and other health professional group education

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Sound clinical knowledge based on current best practice and NHS experience.
  • In depth knowledge of prescribable oral nutritional supplements, enteral feeds and other dietetic products, medications and drug nutrient interactions
  • Excellent verbal, written and active listening skills with ability to write detailed reports and maintain accurate records
  • Teaching / supervisory skills on a one to one and group basis Good presentation skills
  • To be able to organise and prioritise own day to day workload with good time management with the ability to organise and prioritise own clinical caseload
Desirable criteria
  • Current NHS policies and initiatives
  • Knowledge of current issues (including NICE guidelines) and research relating to dietetics.
  • To have an understanding of the function, components and benefits of clinical supervision and be able to give and receive clinical supervision, as well as identifying own development needs
