The University of Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has an exciting new opportunity for a dedicated Band 3 Physiotherapy Team Technical Instructor to join our friendly Orthopaedic Physiotherapy team atÌý The Sussex Orthopaedic Treatment Centre, in the heart of Mid Sussex.

The Sussex Orthopaedic Treatment Centre is a specialist unit for patients undergoing elective and trauma orthopaedic surgery, including major joint replacements and day case surgery. Excitingly, we have recently been accredited by GIRFT (a national programme promoting excellence in surgery) as an orthopaedicÌý surgical hub - one of only 8 pilot sites across the country. Currently we have several exciting patient improvement projects ongoing; including performing the first day case joint replacements in Sussex, and robotic surgery.

The department is committed to professional development which is facilitated through an established IPR, mentoring schemes and dedicated CPD time.

Main duties of the job

Main duties of the job

This is a new post and will require a hard working and enthusiastic individual to support our clinical team. The successful candidate will require excellent organisational, communication and IT skills. Experience in a healthcare setting would be an advantage, but not essential.

After appropriate training, the candidate will be required to assist physiotherapists in the assessment and treatment of patients. There will also be a number of administrative duties that the candidate will need to perform to assist the team. Please read the job description for details of these.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Main responsibilities include:

  • Assisting physiotherapists in the assessment and treatment of patients pre and post-op.Ìý
  • Equipment and stock management.
  • Receiving delivery of, and putting away stock.
  • Coordination and tracking of onward patient referrals
  • Collation of departmental statistics.
  • Answering the departmental telephone and emailsÌý
  • Printing and photocopying physiotherapy paperwork.
  • Taking and typing up meeting minutes.
  • Assisting with the training and induction of new clinical staff and students.

Admin Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous admin experience related role at any level (including voluntary)
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience in a healthcare related setting e.g. GP practice/hospital/hospice/clinic (3)

IT experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of IT skills - Microsoft Word/Excel/Outlook/Teams
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of using Healthcare related IT programmes - e.g. Careflow/Bluespier/iProc
  • Evidence of online ordering of stock using any system

Communication Skills

  • Evidence of strong Communication Skills - experience of dealing with members of the public - virtual and/or face to face
