Job overview
We have a great opportunity for a dietitian with a passion for enteral feeding to join our Home Enteral Feeding team. You will work alongside a small team of senior dietitians and an experienced dietetic assistant. We provide a comprehensive service to a diverse group of patients requiring oral and enteral nutrition support in their own homes as well as in residential/care homes. We are a supportive and innovative team that continuously seeks to adapt and improve the service we provide as well as a strong focus on the health and well-being of our staff.
If you are looking to develop a career in home enteral feeding but do not yet have sufficient experience in this area, applications can be considered and appropriate training provided.
Our department is committed to student dietitian training and undertake A, B and C clinical placements for Surrey students – we get exceptional feedback from the students and university on the quality of the placements we offer. This role will include participating in student training. Your own personal development will be supported through regular supervision and access to training opportunities.
Worthing is located on the South coast with the sea and South Downs within easy reach. It is a vibrant and lively place to live and work with excellent transport links to Brighton, London and the rest of the South coast.
Informal visits or discussions about the role are very welcome.
Main duties of the job
This post is based at Worthing Hospital and will join our department of 24 dietitians and 2 dietetic assistants providing services to Worthing Hospital (approx. 540 beds), outpatients and the surrounding community. The department is well respected and has clinical speciality areas in acute medicine, critical care, diabetes, elderly care, gastroenterology, home enteral tube feeding, oncology, paediatrics, stroke/neurology and surgery.
Our team has over 120 patients on its caseload living in West Sussex. A car driver is essential. The post holder will manage their own caseload of adult patients.
We have excellent working relationships with our acute dietitian teams, gastroenterology consultants and nutrition support team. Working in the HEF team will provide you with extensive opportunities to work with the wider community health care teams, participate in education and training, and develop your leadership skills.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Undertake dietetic assessments of referred patients taking into account medical, social, cultural and psychological factors. Calculate nutritional requirements based on the interpretation of anthropometry, biochemistry, clinical condition and other physical parameters.
- Determine and prescribe the appropriate dietetic treatment and develop treatment plans.
- Provide training to patients, carers and staff system and order equipment/appropriate ancillariesÌý patients.
- Negotiate change with patients to enable them to achieve targets, overcoming barriers to change including dietary, environmental, social and psychological factors.
- Communicate complex information in an understandable form to patients who may have barriers to communication and understanding.
- Provide training and support with audits around service development

Essential criteria
- Bachelor of science (Honors degree) Nutrition and Dietetics, Diploma in Nutrition and dietetics, or post graduate Diploma
Desirable criteria
- Post registration training in cognitive behavioural therapy.
