The department of Neurosurgery is part of the Neuroscience Care Group which includes as well Neurology, Stroke Medicine.

ÌýThis post is for Locum Consultant Neurosurgeon with special interest in Vascular Neurosurgery and Skull Base.

ÌýThe post holder is required to support inpatient and outpatient Neurosurgery services and will play a critical role in delivering Neurosurgery for Hull, the Yorkshire & Humber region and North East Lincolnshire. The Service treats patients from Hull, Scarborough, Bridlington, York, Grimsby, Scunthorpe, Lincoln, Louth and Doncaster.

Main duties of the job

The purpose of this post is to provide a regional Neurosurgical service to patients with neurological disorders and to develop an interest in a specialist field of cranial vascular and skull base Neurosurgery. The post is a temporary post with a view to look at a substantive appointee in the future.

ÌýThe appointee will be expected to take independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients referred to them at the Neurosurgical centre.Ìý ÌýThe holder of the post will work in team with other consultants with subspecialty interest in vascular and skull base neurosurgery.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Success in Intercollegiate specialty examination or overseas equivalent
  • • Registered in the Specialist Register with GMC
  • • CCT in Neurosurgery
Desirable criteria
  • • Postgraduate thesis

Clinical Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in Neurosurgery
  • • Skull base and vascular neurosurgery interest, fellowship and experience (Please submit logbook)
  • • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems both emergency and elective within specialty
  • • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
  • • Ability to operate independently both neurovascular and skull base cases
Desirable criteria
  • • Ability to manage neurovascular and skull base cases independently

Management and Administrative Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Ability to advise and lead on efficient and smooth running of specialist service and Neurovascular/Skull Base MDT
  • • Ability to organise and manage out patient priorities, surgical waiting lists and operating lists
  • • Ability to manage and lead surgical firm
Desirable criteria
  • • Ability to manage and lead specialist unit, MDT and working parties as appropriate
  • • Experience of audit management

Teaching Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Experience of supervising FY and SHO’s
  • • Ability to teach clinical and operative skills
Desirable criteria
  • • Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates
  • • Experience of supervising SpR’s
  • • Ability to supervise postgraduate research

Research Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical and surgical problems
Desirable criteria
  • • Post graduate degree with Research, publication in referred journals
