We are seeking an Environmental, Sustainability, and Energy Manager to oversee the development and implementation of our Green Plan, Energy Strategy, and NetZero commitments.
This role involves managing energy contracts, providing expert advice on sustainability initiatives, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. You will lead a team, collaborate with senior managers, and engage with external stakeholders to drive sustainability improvements across the Trust.
About You:
- Strong background in energy management, environmental sustainability, or estates management.
- Extensive experience in developing and delivering sustainability strategies, including carbon reduction plans.
- Knowledge of energy procurement, compliance regulations, and environmental best practices.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with experience working with senior stakeholders.
- Proven leadership skills, with the ability to manage teams and external contractors effectively.
- Proficiency in data analysis, technical reporting, and project management.

Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the management and delivery of the organisation鈥檚 Green Plan and NetZero agenda.
- Oversee the Trust鈥檚 energy strategy, ensuring efficient energy procurement and contract management.
- Provide expert advice on energy, environmental, and sustainability matters to senior management, estates teams, and external agencies.
- Prepare technical reports, projections, and briefing papers on energy consumption, carbon emissions, and sustainability performance.
- Manage professional consultancy contracts related to energy and environmental initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, risk assessments, and health & safety standards.
- Lead and develop the Energy and Sustainability team, ensuring a proactive approach to sustainability challenges.
- Support property acquisitions and disposals with a focus on energy efficiency and sustainability.
- Represent the Trust in engagements with external bodies, including NHS partners, public sector organisations, and regulatory bodies.

Qualifications, Education & Training
Essential criteria
- Masters level qualification in a relevant Energy or Environmental Management related subject or able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge backed by practical experience.
- Relevant management qualification or equivalent experience of leading and managing staff and budgets within property related function(s).
- Member of an appropriate professional body (e.g. IEMA, IWFM,RICS & HEFMA). Applied knowledge of NHS Net Zero Building Standards.
- Evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
- Qualification in Sustainability Management.
- Qualification in Environmental Management.
- NEBOSH Certificate in Environmental Management.
- Knowledge of public sector procurement regulations.
Desirable criteria
- Full Membership of a relevant professional body such as the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA).
- Awareness and knowledge of department of health general design guidance within healthcare settings.
- NEBOSH/IOSH Health and Safety qualification.

- Experience of financial management and the preparation of financial projections, financial estimates.
- Management of external contracts / consultants and direct in-house labour.
- Experience of working in an estates / facilities role.
