Chelmer Ward, in Basildon Hospital, has a fantastic opportunity for a Staff Nurse to join their supportive and friendly team.

You will be required to work across the Directorate on an internal rotation according to the needs of the service delivery, primarily required to work as a skilled member of the surgical nursing team to assist in the high provision of care to patients and families including assessment and evaluation for patients and following agreed care pathways.

You will develop and maintain good unit management and organisational skills and assist with the provision of an environment conductive to the education of staff. Duties also to include the cleaning, maintenance and safe handling of equipment

Main duties of the job

Your role will involve providing the highest standard of nursing care for the patients and their families by ensuring that an ongoing welcoming, caring and safe environment is provided for the patients, planning, assessing, implementing and evaluating programmes of care for individual patients assisting other staff in this activity if required.

You will be required to follow guidelines on maintaining patient’s notes and documents, ensuring legibility and accuracy of nursing records, to be aware of the legal implications of these documents, to report on patient condition to the medical staff and ensure prescribed treatments are carried out ensuring all members of the health care team are kept informed of the changing needs of the patient.

You will need to take all measures to ensure the safety of patients, reporting all accidents/incidents promptly to the Lead Nurse and Department Manager, completing the relevant form correctly, to be competent in the administration of oral drugs used in the unit and to undertake relevant drug administration training to comply with national and Mid & South Essex University Hospitals Group guidelines.

You will develop an understanding of common cardiological conditions along with a basic knowledge of ECG interpretation and ensure emergency equipment is checked as per Trust policy, and ensure any problems with equipment are reported and the equipment removed from use as appropriate.
