Job overview

Trained medical secretarial support will be available and suitable office accommodation will be provided. Secretarial support will be provided at a minimum of 0.5 wte support. The post holder will share office space with a desk and IT support with access to Microsoft Office, the Hospital intranet, internet and email facilities.

To provide Upper Gastrointestinal benign expertise to patients at Basildon and Broomfield Hospital (alternating work week), and MSE.

To provide an emergency General Surgical Service to patients at Broomfield Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be expected to provide a General and Upper GI service of the highest quality. ÌýThis includes programmed activities for clinical work (outpatient, inpatient, theatre and interventional endoscopy), audit, education, clinical governance and personal SPA time.

The post-holder will be expected to participate in the out-of-hours and on-call rota which is currently 1:10 for General Surgery at Broomfield incorporating the UGI Cancer on-call commitment, consisting of 1:6 Upper GI weekdays and 1:7 weekends. ÌýThere are plans to formalise a regional UGI benign emergency role.

The post-holder will be required to provide cover for colleagues’ annual leave and other authorised absence.

The post-holder will further develop the Upper GI service with medical and surgical colleagues and management representatives of the Division.

The post-holder must work flexibly with colleagues to achieve the hospital agreed planned activity for inpatient and outpatient services.

The post-holder must ensure that standards are developed through clinical audit, evidence-based research and appraisal.

The post-holder must ensure all emergency patients are reviewed by a Consultant within 14 hours of arrival in hospital.

The post-holder must ensure all inpatients are reviewed every 24 hours by a senior doctor (SpR or above).
