Job overview
This role involves joining a well established infection and antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) team at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust.
The post-holder will work as part of the wider AMS team, including a consultant antimicrobial pharmacist and specialist antimicrobial pharmacists, to oversee the management of antimicrobials within the Trust. The post-holder will be based at the Broomfield Hospital site.
The post-holder will spend the majority of their time in a patient facing role, participating in multi-disciplinary ward rounds on inpatient wards to support the delivery of the Trust's Antimicrobial Stewardship program and will be support the OPAT service for the site.
Main duties of the job
- To develop and implement a framework to promote safe, cost-effective and rational prescribing of antimicrobial drugs. This includes developing local prescribing policies, participating in antimicrobial drug review and audit programmes and contributing to the development and introduction of innovative strategies to deliver the trust's AMS agenda.
- To work collaboratively with the other specialist antimicrobial pharmacists and the consultant pharmacist to lead the Trust's antimicrobial stewardship team
- To work closely with all pharmacy, microbiology/infection control, medical and nursing staff and the divisional management structure to co-ordinate and undertake programmes of work identified by the Trust's AMS team.
- To provide a highly specialist clinical pharmacy service ensuring high quality, safe, effective, legal and accurate use of medicines within the speciality.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience of working in an acute NHS hospital ward environment and demonstrate excellent communication and negotiating skills, working closely with patients and multidisciplinary teams throughout the hospital.Ìý

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered with GPhC
- Certificate in pharmacy practice or equivalent clinical experience (1 year post registration acute NHS experience)
Desirable criteria
- Diploma in clinical pharmacy
- Independent prescribing qualification
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Previous NHS hospital experience
Desirable criteria
- Previous AMS experience
