Job overview

We are looking to recruit an experienced, part-time, Band 7 Renal Dietitian to join our friendly and supportive team based at Colchester to provide clinical expertise in renal services across North East Essex and be actively involved in the development and expansion of the service.
You will be supported by an MDT who values their input and a friendly, forward thinking Dietetic team. ÌýThe Nutrition and Dietetic department within the NEECS division is made up of approximately 25 staff consisting of dietitians at band 5, 6 and 7 supported by assistants and administrative staff. We provide student placements for the Universities of Hertfordshire and East Anglia and have an apprentice due to start in the team.
You would be working collaboratively with one other Band 7 Renal Dietitian and with colleagues in the acute team. We work flexibly to cover across teams where there is a significant demand an offer rotational opportunities to our Band 5 colleagues. ÌýWe provide an inpatient and outpatient service for adults at all stages of renal failure, with patients seen in hospital, on dialysis and in clinics. You should demonstrate advanced knowledge and skill as a renal dietitian with excellent team working and communication skills. You should have a good understanding of the impact, of managing multiple comorbidities and long term health conditions has on those with renal failure. ÌýÌý

Main duties of the job

We have a 20 station haemodialysis unit at Colchester and 12 station satellite unit at Clacton, with patients seen in person or remotely. You should have experience in all areas of renal management, specifically haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and pre and post-transplant care. We are looking specifically for someone who would be interested in leading on our peritoneal dialysis and home dialysis service due to start next year and so having experience in these services would be essential. Experience working in diabetes and group education is not essential but would be desirable.

Person specification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Good clinical knowledge of all areas of dietetics but specifically in Diabetes and Renal management
  • Evidence of on-going Professional Development at Masters Level
  • Extensive experience working in dietetics and working at Band 7 in renal dietetics
  • Evidence of commitment to lifelong Learning
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in a leadership role

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent
  • HCPC (Health and Care professions Council) registered dietitian (RD)
  • Evidence of ongoing education in renal dietetics – BDA renal courses
  • Clinical Supervisory Skills Course/ Student training courses
  • Experience of leading or co-ordinating audit or research work.
Desirable criteria
  • Member of British Dietetic Association and specialist interest group
  • Evidence of post-graduate training in relevant speciality

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of extensive dietetic knowledge and highly specialist expertise in relevant specialist area with recent experience demonstrating this. Want experience working in different clinical settings and specific experience of all types of RRT (renal replacement therapies) inpatient/ in- centre/peritoneal /home haemodialysis and post-transplant care.
