Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a Trust Specialty Registrar (ST3-5 equivalent) in Geriatric medicine to join our active and growing team here at the Princess Alexandra Hospital. The successful candidate will be part of an enthusiastic and forward-thinking team, driving forward service improvements. The successful candidate should have an interest in Geriatric Medicine with relevant experience, and be registered and licensed with the General Medical Council.Ìý

This post provides an ideal opportunity to build on that experience.Ìý Although this is not a training post the post holder will be able to access education sessions and supervision within the hospital to support their professional development.

Main duties of the job

The purpose of the role is to co-ordinate high quality person-centred care for the patients on the ward, ensuring that all patients admitted have a diagnosis and treatment plan, and receive a daily medical review.

The post holder will work closely with the medical team and wider multidisciplinary clinical team to deliver excellent patient care and developments and improvements to service provision. Within the firm structure and as such is most suitable for a candidate with MRCP wishing to gain further experience at ST3-5 level in Care of the Elderly Medicine and General (Internal) Medicine.Ìý

The post offers excellent experience in acute General and Care of the Elderly Medicine. The post holder will work closely with the medical team and wider multidisciplinary clinical team in his/her area of work to deliver high quality patient care.Ìý The post holder will also support the consultant in driving forward service improvements according to the changing and increasing needs of the population.Ìý

Essential criteria
  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register in geriatric medicine or eligibility for specialist registration in geriatric Medicine within 6 months from the time of the interview

Qualifications

  • Valid ALS or equivalent

Clinical Experience

Essential criteria
  • Broad knowledge and experience of Geriatric Medicine and UK Acute Medicine and Ambulatory Care in UK Evidence of personal practice in all areas described by the RCP curriculum

Clinical Effectiveness

  • Understanding of principles of clinical governance Ability to demonstrate personal continuing personal development
  • Experience of guideline appraisal
  • Participation in relevant audits
