Job overview
The Rodings Community Midwives team has an opportunity available for an experienced community midwife to become our new team leader. You will provide midwifery care, coordinate and develop services provided to pregnant women and babies and provide effective leadership within the maternity team. Ìý
You will work collaboratively with the other multi-disciplinary team members and contribute to the education and the professional development of staff in the acute and primary care setting. You will be actively involved in client/family education, supporting midwives and GPs to provide on-going antenatal and postnatal care and planning care for clients. You will also take charge of auditing, monitoring and evaluating the service provided.
As a senior member of the team you should be able to demonstrate a supportive and flexible leadership approach and a pro-active, responsible, attitude so as to promote confidence in the team and the service. You will have designated responsibility for strategic work streams at divisional level providing leadership around the Quality and Safety and/or Workforce agendas
Main duties of the job
- Provide individualised, women centred care for women
- Provide continuity of care with emotional and psychological support during the antenatal and postnatal periods in the community. The trajectory is that this will also include intrapartum care when the team is able to move to a continuity model.
- Liaise appropriately with services to ensure safe and effective care is provided to women at the right place, and at the right time. Act as an advocate for women, whilst safeguarding her and her wider family and social group when required
- Provide high quality, evidence-based care and advice to women
- Enhance the woman's experience of care and ensure that the needs of the woman are placed at the centre of care
- Have an understanding of barriers that impact or inhibit women from accessing antenatal care
- Advocate for women in their choices surrounding pregnancy and birth
- Ensure safe and effective clinical practice ensuring knowledge, skills and competencies are current
- Act as a clinical expert to disseminate specialist skills and knowledge
- Share highly developed specialist knowledge, underpinned by theory and high experience
- Act as a clinical expert to the team
- Manage the team with regard to sickness, roster, appraisal and education

- Current NMC registered midwife qualification
- Degree or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
- Previous management or leadership course
Experience

- Experienced midwife including recent intrapartum
- Leadership experience as deputy team lead or ward manager
- Community and homebirth experience
Desirable criteria
- Experience of developing guidelines and policies
Personal qualities
Essential criteria
- Ability to adapt to meet changing needs and to work under pressure
- Ability to act as highly professional ambassador for the department when attending external events/meetings
